A Dance With Dragons
« on: July 24, 2011, 04:05:02 pm »
Just finished it. Far superior to A Feast for Crows, as was expected, even if GRRM does continue his tradition of "all ends are cliffhangers."

Anyone else follow "A Song of Ice and Fire"? Or maybe you've watched the "Game of Thrones" series on HBO?

I loved it, but the event I most wanted to see a follow-up to from Feast for Crows didn't really happen (Stoneheart's plotline).  Griff seemed cheap to me, though I know many people felt it had been hinted at beforehand.
Here's hoping it's not another 11 years to the next update.

I follow the series, though it's been a while since I read them. Has a new book been published yet? I remember I was waiting for that about 1 and a half/2 years ago. Probably have to re-read the entire series again.

Are there Spoiler tags in this new forum software? I want to discuss Jaime's thread but don't want to give away anything for people who haven't read the books.

"A Dance with Dragons" is the newest one. It's quite enjoyable.

I have no idea what it is: many people say that The Lord of The Rings is difficult to read. I read it almost in one go when I was on a vacation. (It took a few days). Similarity. The Commonwealth Saga of Peter F. Hamilton read very well.

Now, I watched Game Of Thrones, I liked it, and I started reading it. How ever I just can't get through it for some reason... With any luck - they'll do season two, though.

allright, thx. I'll look a Dance with Dragons up soon.

And Zespri, I know what you mean. I find the "A song of Ice and Fire" series easier to read than the Lord of the Rings series in terms of long and endless "object describings" , as I like to call it, which made it hard for me to get through LotR. Though in the song of ice and fire series there is just a lot of things going on and remembering everything that happens can be challenging. Which is exactly why I have to re-read the series before starting on the newest book.
If you can't get through this series, don't ever start on the "The Wheel of Time" series. It's three times worse than a song of ice and fire. The story is amazing, but it's so very difficult to remember everything that has been going on. It has 11 books so far (12th and last should come soon with a bit of luck) with 9000-10000 pages in total or something like that. Read them all in about 2-3 months and by the time I finished the last one, I forgot most of the first one. That was more than 2 years ago, I only remember bits and pieces now... not even the main characters name lol.
I started the song of ice and fire series after I read the wheel of time, so it was considerably easier to read for me compared to what I was used to

Heh i found that i only got through song of ice and fire by taking notes. Though the TV series is nice i had to laugh when i thought that they actually made it 1:1 to the books, that was not a smart choice given that its really hard to remember what was going on over 1 book, but now its a whole season break.... in between, nobody is gonna remember anything from season 1 by the time season 2 comes.  :o
