That's funny. Don't debate HoN vs LoL...but fyi tf2 has a superior anger mechanism? Please. I played that game, and it's the same chatter. I will agree with you that wasting 30 min. is a bigger explosion, but to say that player harassment doesn't run rampant among an overall crappy community on team Fortress is just not true.

I'm not saying TF2 is 'better', try to get out of confrontational mode. It's possible to compare and contrast the benefits and drawbacks of different games without championing one and deriding the other.

Anyways, I would enjoy hearing more about the elite HoN community over the childish LoL community from a guy complaining about my Little pony fans on their forums.

Posts like that don't help the conversation along at all, come on. Try to talk to people like you respect them.  It will make things go much better for everyone, believe me. The only reason I said to avoid the eternal HoN v LoL debate, is because every single time I have seen that subject come up, without fail, it has devolved into personal attacks.

Well, you said that, and then you brought up your favorite game as a better alternative as it relates to people having a meltdown in the game. Other communities that are lacking include call of duty and counterstrike. That's what I'm addressing. It's like we cannot have separate viewpoints, and every discussion has to be vanilla backslapping.

I don't mind talking about MOBA's. I thought that was what this thread was about. Someone made the assertion that LoL was aimed at kids and had cartoony graphics (so does HoN); what's wrong with challenging that? And, debating the particulars for each oneā€¦ that ship has come and gone on page 1. Don't worry about personal attacks. I don't do those.

Don't get me wrong guys, I like both the games.  These are just my opinions on them.  I wouldn't have over 1000 games played for them if I didn't think there were strengths and weaknesses for both.

If I'm a fanboy for anything it's DotA 2.

People always assume that I'm attacking them when my opinion is different.  Everybody gets so defensive when their position is questioned and I don't understand why.  It's like it's not politically correct to ever question someone's opinion or have a discussion about it that could be viewed as even slightly controversial.

I love all MOBAs and I love the people that play them.  If I ever gave any other impression then I am extremely sorry.  I was just trying to have a pleasant discussion, we should all just get along!

For the record, having cartoony graphics and childish characters is far from the only reasons why LoL is a casual game and not as deep as the game it was derived from.  There are actually dozens of reasons, but mostly because it was dumbed down to be easier for new players and more accessible to the general audience (it worked obviously).  That doesn't mean it's a bad game!  Everybody says that Supreme Commander 2 was a dumbed down version of the first game, and I LOVED Supreme Commander 2 a lot more than I cared for SupCom 1, because in my opinion it was a vastly superior game, even in its dumbed down state.

I could go through the list of reasons why HoN/DotA is more skill-based, but I hardly think it's necessary.  The extremely successful competitive environment for both games speaks well enough for itself, with DotA 2 having the biggest e-sports tournament ever hosted before its even released and HoN having tournaments basically daily.  LoL has a competition like once or twice a year?

If LoL is meant to be competitive, then where in the replay mode, where is the clan support, where is the spectator mode, where all the features you would expect from a game that is trying to make a competitive name for itself.  It's just not on the priority list.

I guess the final point I'm trying to make is that just because we're discussing the similarities and differences between the games does not make this a HoN vs. LoL thread.  If we keep this civil then it's just a constructive discussion.

I hope this doesn't turn into the usual DOTA vs HoN vs LoL vs everyone else that it usually... ohwaitasec

Not only have I posted in a moba-war thread, but I also managed to get TF2 involved somehow. Valve certainly can't complain about the publicity a moba-game tends to bring these days.

Can't say I wasn't productive at uni today.  8)

Cartoony graphics have never stopped me from playing a game.  (See LOZ: Wind Waker).  And I like to think myself a tad older than a kid these days tyvm ;).

Not even remotely close to what I was saying. But never mind, if I try to make my point a 3rd time I think I cross the line that officially means I am beating my head on a wall. So I'll just leave this here instead: http://xkcd.com/386/

Have fun arguing!

If I honestly thought when I made this thread that it would turn into a flame war, I never would have made it.  I'm extremely sorry, mostly to Chris, that it came to this.  I thought the people on this forum were adult enough to have constructive discussions without becoming defensive and making jives at each other, but I was mistaken.  This will be the last thread I make in off-topic.  Once again, I'm extremely sorry this happened.

Just catching up on this now, not having any knowledge of HoN or LoL or DotA in any real sense.

My overall read: sure there were some tempers, but as "flame wars" go this was pretty tame.  Hurt feelings are bound to arise even when people make "tame" ad hominem attacks, though, so let's try to avoid that, eh?

Wingflier, I hope you'll continue posting, and don't let this thread get you down. I don't have any amazing pearls of wisdom here, but I don't see where this has to be a major forum event in terms of there being a discussion that got a bit heated here.  Let's try to avoid that when we can, obviously, but... now I'm just looping in what I said. ;)

Thank you for the support Chris.  I don't mean for my threads to turn out like this. I think I'll take some time to re-evaluate how to best to communicate with the community without provoking flamewars before I make a thread again.  This is the second thread I've made within the past month that has spiraled out of control before I even realized what was happening.  I guess I just have to understand that not everybody has thick skin and that some people can get really defensive and angry if they even think that their opinions or beliefs are being questioned.  I'll be more careful in the future.  Thank you for understanding.
