As part of a social experiment...
« on: April 27, 2011, 12:30:15 am »
I'm supposed to encourage anyone and everyone who wants a little more sunshine in their life to watch this

The experiment is simply to try to brighten up what might is for some a miserable world. What can be more saccharine then watching colorful ponies do funny things? It is mildly feminine but stays away from distinctly "girl" things such as makeup, boyfriends, etc. The writers clearly enjoyed themselves, there is wordplay galore which is my favorite part.

I'm well aware the typical AI War player is not in the target audience, but the show is (on youtube at least) more popular with 18-24 males then any other group, so something is appealing to guys. Beware that theme song though, even some fans hate it.

I started watching this as a drinking game actually. For one episode, I took a shot every time there was a pun somehow relating to a horse / pony. I was smashed halfway through, quite fun.

Anyway...don't be a foal. Give it a shot even if only to watch it "ironically" (I never got how to do that).

Have only a minute? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7PGKcikaGY&feature=related

Have 22 minutes? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxzbSLAx2rI

Have an hour? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeJ6-gN0eB4&feature=related
then watch the second episode, then the fourth episode.

Oh, and if you come to somehow enjoy this series, your supposed to tell people in other forums about this, as part of the experiment. It was because I was converted that I'm now posting about this.

I got my girlfriend into this so that I can (pretend to) ignore it while she watches it. I'm brilliant.

Alright, I'll play your pony games.

So that show is actually pretty good, it has some really good writing. I'm enjoying it.

Gotta admit, when they dub those ponies with some other (awesome) voice actors or proper "hyper" editing its hilarious ;) The Ponycraft Launch Trailer dub was awesome too ;)

But as for the series, well some are gonna like it.. i think i'll rather watch Doctor Who or something.. ;p

Have 22 minutes? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxzbSLAx2rI

I've been seeing this pop up all over the place for weeks, so I finally gave in and watched that one.  If that's supposed to be one of the better ones, I'm totally missing the apparently huge appeal of the show outside of what is I assume its much younger target audience.  It's not bad or anything, unlike a lot of really obnoxious kids' shows that are intolerable if you're over the age of eight, but other than the high production values, I don't get it.

Maybe other episodes are different, but that one didn't seem particularly funny or clever or anything else that stood out.  I'm actually a big fan of cartoons aimed at kids, but generally stuff more like Powerpuff Girls or SpongeBob, where the puns are either so good they're funny or so bad they're terrible and cringe-inducing instead of the awkward/bland middle ground the pony ones mostly fall into, and they're plastered with references to things kids wouldn't get but that make them fun for adults watching.  Mostly this just makes me want to go watch those instead.  Or maybe Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt because something about the art style occasionally makes me think of it.  Heh.

This, however, is brilliant.  Pretty much anything combined properly with TF2 voice clips seems to be, though.

Well, everyone has different likes and dislikes for everything. I myself found myself laughing a lot more about ponies then either spongebob or powerpuff girls. The episode I linked to isn't actually the best one. The best will be of the viewers opinion because each episodes focuses on different characters, has different writers, and different story styles.  About the only correlation I can tell from favorites is tat often times one's favorite episodes stars their favorite character. I also didn't link the best because I don't think it is fair to give the best when trying to get someone into things, but rather it is fair to only give a decent one. The episode I gave was meant to just get your feet wet . If you don't "get it", that is perfectly alright.

I will add that when I watched my first few episodes, I was very on the fence on the whole thing as I almost choked on how sweet it was. However as I watched more episodes the positives seemed to get stronger while the negatives remained the same, so I've enjoyed it more as I have watched more. But I liked the writing from first view, so I might just have finally admitted to myself that I really did like it from the start.
Life is short. Have fun.

Gave it a go but iirc I didn't like it as a kid and apparently still feel the same about it now :)

I have to agree with Nalgas though, it still is much better than say Dora, which just pisses me off :D

Interesting you should say that, because both PPG and MLP are both headed by Lauren Faust so it should have the same feel to it. It seems to for me, at least. Not that I watch (every episode of) this kid's show. Not at all.

Yeah, it's weird.  I should really like it, because she worked on both PPG and Foster's, which are both completely awesome.  Must be the lack of Craig McCracken or something.  It almost makes me want to watch more and give it another chance, just because of that.
