Units not attacking Viral Clusters
« on: August 22, 2010, 08:39:39 am »
I started a new game, with the Viral Enthusiast, but my units are not automatically attacking the Viral Clusters when they are close by, even if its the only unit there that belongs to the AI.

They do kill it if I tell them to specifically, but not on they own, they just sit there and get shot ;)

I'm going to copy paste keith's comment on this from another thread.

Anyway, so only the viral clusters lack the AIP-on-death, and this is intentional (because for the others there's only one per planet).  To my knowledge the current behavior should allow auto-targeting on the viral cluster, but for the next version I'm actually going to explicitly set the "PlayerAutoTargetLevel" to"DirectOnly" for _all_ the clusters because of one rather important fact: if they get hit, they get angry.  If they get angry, you get swarmed.  Therefore it should be a conscious decision for the player rather than making them pull their hair out trying to keep their long-range units always busy so they don't wake up the viral cluster (or whatever) on the other side of the map.

It's as designed so that siege or other long range unit doesn't hit the cluster, spawning a bunch of younglings you are not expecting.

That seems reasonable then :)

FYI - Keith responded to my post about this: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,6830.0.html.  It's as Dazio said, but prersonally I'd rather just trigger the swarmers but kill the cluster, instead of passively take all that fire from them.
