Loving the Changes
« on: May 01, 2011, 11:20:09 am »
Hey I took a few month break there, but after getting some friends interested I'm back into the action.  We have the latest beta and so far I'm loving the changes.

The mobile builder fold-out is brilliant.
Being able to save your CTRL settings is so awesome.
Being able to see the total health of each type of ship in your group, as well as the individual health of the lowest one :P
Giving Resources to teammates! <333
No more selecting military and non-military at the same time ;p
The Core fabricator team fold-out is also brilliant and severely needed.
The way the new Eyes function (having to destroy all the guard posts) was interesting and adds a lot of depth to the game (especially if there are high level Fortresses on the planet :D)
Removing the counter-attack multiplier against Ion Cannons was a good decision, now they are a strategical consideration.
The "Warp Gates" to circumvent all the rally point nonsense was a wonderful change to eliminate a TON of unnecessary micro and confusion.

This is all just with the base game, there's probably a ton of other great things if I played the expansions more often.  Amazing job guys, keep up the good work!

Welcome back! I picked it up again recently myself after taking a month or two of a break and remembers a suggestion I had. Can you make it so it remembers your view (Zoom level and camera position) on each planet between games? I know it does during game, but it's annoying having to get all my views back when I save and quit.

That's a tricky one because of multiplayer -- it doesn't keep track of where your views are in a multiplayer game, except on your local machine, so it would only remember it for whoever did the saving, which would be annoying to everyone else.  That's the main reason I never put that feature in.

OH, I forgot to add that Military Orbitals now dislocate their targets.  When I first realized they were doing that I laughed at how awesome it was.  Wonderful idea to make them worth building.

Also thanks, I'm glad to be back ;p

That was a player suggestion, I think -- it's definitely one of my favorite changes, too. :)

Understandable. Could there be a way to make it save into a dat file per game or something? Sort of like an Autosave feature but for the camera?

I'd suggest throwing it into mantis and voting it up -- it's definitely a possibility. :)

Sorry, but too trivial to vote.
I actually like the fact the view resets to the CC, scroll out, point mouse, scroll in, 0.1sec of my life spend :D
Also no reason to vote against it though, I'll just see what will happen :)

I'm suggesting it be an optional feature anyway, but when you're doing that across two dozen planets at the start of each game, it gets annoying fast.

Well, I tend to have only 4-5-x fronts, and on every other planet I group my stuff around the CC, and as the view defaults to centering on that ...  8)
Honostly I dont mind it being changed, I think you'll have more luck making it default as it would likelly cause less work for Chris/Keith.
Its just that pretty much every other issue/request seems more important than this one, so voting on this one means its less likelly the others will be picked up ... just saying .. :)

yeah it aint bugging me at all. I've grown used to it. Besides, I sometimes wait so long with replaying a certain save, that I forgot what I was doing in that game. So it doesn't really matter how the views are set, I have to look into everything all over again anyway :D
