BTW, can expansions do anything to expand existing expansion mechanisms, e.g. more golems, spirecraft or champion parts?

I'm willing to bet that they can. I wouldn't see why not from a technical standpoint... although it does make some content useless if, say, you have Zenith Remnant off but Expansion 5 on.

We don't want cross-expansion dependencies (at least for what's originally in an expansion, adding stuff later like the hybrid/dyson plot is just free extras), but having an expansion add a new golem type such that you can still use that golem type (and not the TZR ones) if you have expansion 5 but not TZR would be ok.  A good idea?  I'm not sure.

Maybe have an OR dependency on stuff like new golems.  Either the new expansion or TZR allows the new golem.
