Wherefore art thou Lumbermancer?
« on: February 26, 2012, 05:46:31 pm »
It seems that every advancement for my settlement/guardian powers requires that I first construct residential areas, and those require lumbermancers, which I don't have. I keep looking for secret missions with new settlers but haven't found any for a while. Is this a deliberate bottleneck? Also, has anyone else been stuck at this spot? Finally, is the only way out right now to find secret settler missions?

A few notes:

1. If you're on the latest version, you should have a lumbermancer now.  Your settlement should have been upgraded to include one.  And all new games include one by default.

2. Yes, you're limited to secret missions to find one, and that's something that's pretty randomized.  Once you have guardian powers that you can use, it's easier to recruit more NPCs.

3. For the first continent we're going to also be giving the first three buildings for free, shortly.

Should the default lumbermancer apply to continents after the first? because well, I had to search around for a lumbermancer on my second continent, though it is possible the continent got generated before the patch and that second continents didn't get the upgrade

You should add in the character type needed to cast the find settlers also. It's nearly impossible to find a rescue NPC mission as a random secret mission and find that particular NPC type.

I think it's only the first continent.  And it does the aquaurge, lumbermancer, and stonebinder, which covers most of the basic things.

Tell me if this is possible. I cannot find my Lumbermancer. I should have one, as you said all settlements were patched to gain one. I tried my first Lava Escape today, and being scared, I just swapped randomly with people in town. I lost 3 guys..... Did I send my (probably flammable) lumbermancer off to a fiery death?

That is incredibly likely, actually.

However, you'll like a couple of changes coming in the next version, including the following:

* Old worlds being upgraded into the new version will ensure that all of their settlements now have a lumbermancer, aquaurgist, and stonebinder in _all_ of their continent settlements, not just the first continent's settlement.
** Additionally, all main-continent-settlements in all old worlds will be upgraded to include residential and storage towers, lumbermancy focal stations, stonebinder tri-towers, and aquaurgist wells.
