No, because of multiplayer.  The first person into the room isn't always the person who needs whatever it is.  And even moreso, that would tend to skew the drop percentages in really difficult-to-balance ways.  And any given solo world can be "multi-player" in a "pass the world around" sort of fashion without actually being a multiplayer server, and solo worlds can become multiplayer worlds at any time, and so on and so forth.

Well I suppose so. Seems like a bit of an edge case. Check everyone on the server, or everyone in the chunk before generating the enchant perhaps? I just can't imagine a scenario where someone is really going to desperately need a plain moderate inner light enchant. If they do need one, maybe they should try walking 5 feet, BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE ONE IS. I didn't really ever plan on playing multiplayer, and while it was amusing at first to run into moderate inner light enchants in every single stash, it has gone far beyond amusing, past annoying, past rage inducing, and now whenever I see one I just polish my shotgun, which I have named Bessie-Jane, and whisper 'soon, my darling'. The flying baby elephants tell me this is normal. *twitch*

And on an unrelated (and more sane) topic: do secret rescue mission NPCs get health increases to balance them as enemy tier increases? I just came across a secret rescue mission, and when I found the NPC she only had 110 or so HP. I really tried to save her, but between projectiles and bats there was just nothing I could do. She could only manage a few hits before dying. I'm assuming NPC damage is balanced around the assumption that your character will have used upgrade stones at least a time or two, but we can't buff NPCs...

In regards to duplicate enchants, can you not just make them invisible and uncollectable to players who already have one?

If they are invisible then even if they are everywhere still you won't actually know and won't be able to care (and uncollectable to avoid the inevitable "i just picked up an invisible item" bug reports)

I mean from a multiplayer perspective surely all the "extra" enchants are just getting destroyed as it stands anyway? (I say this having never played multiplayer)

It's worth putting in mantis, or even a discussion thread about it, but I've got some seriously larger fish to fry in the next two days -- not that I'm trying to be dismissive, but I'm not going to be able to fully engage on this topic until some other stuff that is more severe gets resolved.

Personally, I kinda like it. The only drawback I can see is that it might make stashes seem emptier, but it's not as if that's a huge problem.

I'm not sure I'm altogether comfortable with the phrase, "Things You Might Should Be Doing"!  :o

It's meant as very mild humor.

In the end I reworded that simply because it was too awkward and fell a bit flat.

Anyway, new one: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,9946.0.html

It's kind of a southern thing -- it's a roundabout sort of funny or tongue in cheek way of strongly hinting to somebody. That particular phrase isn't a direct quote, but that style of sentence (and the tone of voice I imagine it said in) are things that my grandmother would have kindly but firmly said if we kids were misbehaving. Etc.

But I was worried that the sentence structure was too awkward for such an important button, and that the humor would be largely lost outside of the south, and that it might be hard to understand for non-native-English speakers. So, went the more direct-command route instead, but players are free to disobey and do what they like. ;)

Sounds like something my girlfriend would say. ;) But yeah, before I moved to the south, that would have sounded very weird to me as well.

It's also the sort of thing I or my wife say to our son, sometimes; despite the triangle area (where Josh, Pablo, myself and our families live) being a pretty mixed-culture sort of a place, there's still a lot of southern roots here.  You wouldn't believe the strength of the southern accent I had before I was five.  There are some videos of me saying "goooofeee" when asked to name the character "goofy" at age 3 or 4.  My wife still gives me a hard time about that one, jokingly.  Now most folks don't tend to notice any particular accent at all, and are surprised when I say where I come from; but when I'm around other southerners with strong accents my own speech naturally starts to revert back to that.

Heck, *I* was surprised when I learned you were native, due to your lack of an accent. :) My girlfriend grew up in the country, and she refuses to totally ditch her accent, so it's still pretty obvious when she talks.

I never intentionally ditched my accent, it was just something that happened as I grew up surrounded by people from other parts of the country and other countries.  Of my two best friends growing up, one was from a family native to I think the midwest, and the other's parents had come over from India directly (and they still had very strong accents, though my friend really did not; by high school he had more of an NPR kind of voice).  And it was like that all over; I played tennis, and a lot of those folks were northerners or folks from even the deeper south (Georgia, etc) where they had completely other accents.  My main partner for doubles was Chinese, his parents having come over directly and so they even still spoke that as their main language at home.  My parents had good friends who were German and Italian, some of whom stayed with us for months at a time, and their accents were thick and we had to speak clearly for them to understand us as well.

Surrounded by all that, my accent just kind of naturally flattened out and faded away.  But a lot of my extended family live or lived in more rural areas, and their accents are still quite strong.  So at family gatherings mine tends to come back out; in one of something like five different fashions, because there's no such thing as a "southern accent" any more than there is a "North Carolina accent."  There's so many subtle variations, like the English recognize for all their areas.

Wow that was more information than I'm sure anyone wanted to know. ;)
