Won my first game
« on: October 12, 2014, 07:09:22 am »
After one humiliating loss where every single race were obliterated one by one by the unstoppable swarm of the Thoraxians, I finally managed to win. I started on the Thoraxian homeworld (yay) and made damn sure that everyone hated their slimy guts, so they were kept in check. The Burlusts tried to rear their ugly heads around and managed to wipe out the Peltians before the rest of the galaxy said "Dudes, stahp!"

I won by bombing the everliving crap out of the Thoraxians and the Burlusts. Getting the other races into the Federation took some work, but not that difficult overall, to be honest. Is it just me or does that "orbital bombardment" thing just work a little too well?

Maybe a tad ;).
Although, I would go for increasing the credit cost, not nerfing its effectiveness.

Congrats on your first win!
And, as Draco usually puts it (I think): Welcome to the top 12.5 percent ;).

Congratulations.

(Though with 3 races dead there's lots of room for future trials and tribulations. Different starts and different goals.)

I think one thing to consider with orbital bombardment is how long it sometimes takes (it can skip by very quickly in real time but slowly in game-time), and trying to balance it against different races with different techs, infrastructure and population. I've found it takes quite a while if the pop gets up to a strength in T rather than B. If you notice something really odd post a save up before it happened, the devs like to look at them for balancing and will make a note of your imput if it leads to a change. (Up here or on Mantis Bug Tracker http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/main_page.php they read both, but it's less likely to get lost on the bug tracker, and you can see when they've looked at it or if it's related to another issue or bug)

I still haven't won with every race still alive... nearly a few times, but the longer the game goes on the bigger the chance for hostile alliances to form or unexpected conquests to defeat your plans. With the other modes though you can try something new then come back for a rematch later.
