Releasing captives/rescued members of a dead race?
« on: September 14, 2014, 11:13:21 am »
In my last playthrough I started off with the Boarines (figuring I could handle them being annoyed with me relatively easily :P).  After taking part in a few space battles, I'd captured around two dozen Boarine pilots and was planning on either using them to get credit or repair my rep somewhat with the regent.

Then the Boarines got their planet taken by the Thoraxians.  Fair enough, it happens.  And they had no pirate bases.  And no POWs (Because ThoraxiansTM).  So, to all intents and purposes, entirely dead, gone and without hope of resurrection.

Except that I had what were, effectively, the last 24 members of their species in my cargo hold.  Unfortunately, with the Boarine regency gone, I couldn't simply release them - in fact, the only thing I could do was sell them as slaves on the black market.

Is there any way to somehow see those last members get back on their feet somehow?  Is there any mechanic in place to allow for, say, those slaves that you sell on the black market to end up as pirates (which would seem a probable destination anyway)?  It would be nice if there was some way of simply getting those 24 individuals back into the simulation in some manner...even if it's just as a slave population on one of the other planets (which then gives the future potential for resistance fighters etc, which are already in place).

I just felt kind of guilty about selling off the last of the solar system's Boarine gene stock for mere credit.  I am a weak-willed being, I know.  :P

Not... Really.

You couldn't really restart their race with only 24 of them. Boarding pod captives are pretty much separate from  population and exist only as an exchange-for-stuff currency. Chances are anything less than at the very least a thousand would have no chance of ever re-populating to the point of reviving their race, especially in gametime.

Apparently, now when you got 100 prisoners of a race, you can either drop them off as expatriates or resistance fighters  ???

yeah, that'll be a good addition; I'd been wondering about this one myself a number of times.

My current game, I ended up with lots of Acutian pilots, since they were the ones I started with, but since they just hate me so darn much there's nothing to be gained from just handing them over, and selling them as slaves just bothers everyone else.... so I've just had like this big pile of Acutians just lounging around in the back of the ship....  keep wishing I could like, hire them as scientists or some role like that.

But this idea sounds really good too.
