Mildly amusing exploits
« on: May 20, 2014, 12:17:10 pm »
Here's one that I had leveraged recently:

- So I'm diplomatically neutral with the Burlusts, and friendly with the Andors. I stack a load of goons. Convince the red-skinned children to build an manufacturing outpost with my help, which nets me positive influence. After that, I take it (a newly constructed outpost is undefended). Then I ask the Andors to speak on my behalf (Federationists in power). I do the same with a science outpost. The same again with a second manufacturing outpost. Oh no, they've run out of materials for a second science outpost! Give them phlebotinum from the traders quest, and repeat with the second outpost.
Voila, 4 outposts for me, leaving the truly exploited Burlusts mildly unhappy (About -25 net?) and bankrupt. Sneaky Andor accomplices get a free cookie for their efforts (I make them an outpost from the proceeds).

Every outpost you take makes the next heist faster. Not sure of a good fix - may require some thought. I would rather implement a way to get races to help you construct your own outpost, rather than their outpost.

Nice work. Not quite on the same scale as the burlust duel exploits from ealier, but still amusing.

I could see a race action like "take it back" where the race builds and sends a certain sized fleet to go try to take back a recently captured outpost. Ramped up responses for repeat offenders. The player is forced to shoot down flagships for more influence lost.

That, or simply if you steal an outpost from a race, they will never let you help them build an outpost again.

Oh, I thought of that fix - it just calls for a bigger heist. ;) Make all the outposts you need from the burlusts (say), and then nab them all. Each time you nab one ask someone else to speak for you.

I suspect each race has a different number of outposts they'd like to have orbiting their planet  (or it depends on the planet). Either way, they are gullible buffoons to have left their outpost undefended when I come to "cut the ribbon".

Seems like if they like you enough that the influence does not drop too low, perhaps it is fine. (but the influence costs should be adjusted to make it less exploitable)

If they end up hating you, killing/taking the outposts that you stole from them should become a high priority.

Thanks!

* Relating to cooperative space outpost construction:
** If you have previously stolen outposts from this race, their minimum required influence for cooperating with you on building a new one goes up by the amount of influence you lost via the past thefts.
** Also, the minimum influnce for this action is now 25 rather than -25.

Btw: With the new freighter distress calls, you can pretty much "gift" the race all the materials needed to build the station you want, and, as long as you've stlen all their other stations, they'll pretty much insta build it for you, so the penalty for stealing stations (and minimum rep) is pretty moot in my experience. Also, the black market is a plenty cheap enough alternative that I don't even steal stations unless I'm taking them to deny them to a race I'm supressing - se rep doesn't matter anyways. (sell those resources, and buy some goons).

I think you'd make a great Galactic President Mr. Beeblebrox.
