Item and Shop questions
« on: May 15, 2016, 12:33:17 pm »
So, I went hunting through the XML and found where Jaywalker is defined.  All I can tell about the frequency with which it should appear is that it's part of the "Incredibilities" item pool, which I guess means you wouldn't see it very often.  In fact, the only time I ever saw any of these was in a shop where I had just killed the shopkeeper.  So is that the only way you get Incredibilities offered to you, or do they ever appear as pickups (like in a loot chest or on clearing a room), or do they get offered as level-up perks?
Also, when I visit a robot shop, shouldn't I consistently see different robot options offered the first time I go into the shop on any given floor?  Naturally, once the shop's been entered the first time, the offerings become static, but shouldn't they change on a new floor?  In the run I just finished, every robot shop offered the same exact selection.

Incredibilities are basically shopkeeper kills "rewards". After the shopkeeper's death, any remaining items of his shop will be converted to an incredibility pickup and will render useless the shops of that type (weapon shop, consumable shop, etc) for the remaining of that run. That's the only way you'll get incredibilities. Some are good, some are bad, some are a death sentence for you.

As for the static robots selection, that's a known bug at the moment.

The robot shop bit is a known issue, that's right.  I'm pretty sure it's due to the levels that drones are set to appear at (attacking ones appearing early on only, defending ones appearing later on only).   There's some other issues with all that though so there might be changes soon anyway.   But yeah, known issue.

As for Incredibilities, hmm, think of them kinda like Nuclear Throne's "Crowns".  They're not balanced whatsoever and are there mostly to change up your run for fun.  Is THAT what this Jaywalker thing is?   If one of THOSE things is breaking stuff when used, well... er... is that one NOT supposed to break stuff?  I have no idea what the intentions were behind that items design.  But I don't normally change balance stuffs for enemies or whatever based on Incredibilities.

Though, one thing that does occur to me about those is that they're a little too easy to get, since all you need to do is specifically pop the cheap items shop to do it, thus not losing any of the ones that might be useful later... hmm.   I wonder if maybe that shouldn't be the case?  Like, have that specific shop not work for it?  I dunno...

Cheap Item Shop and Consumable Item Shop.
Even with the new buffed consumables there's rarely a need to buy any.
