Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Congrats.
How many underground bunkers did you end up using? How do you feel about placement?
When I was building them last time I drop about 30 every 3 turns, it was tiring.

Having to place that many buildings definitely is not a goal, goodness.  I'd rather evolve things such that you can hit those pops without so much sprawl of spammed buildings.  For the sake of the map view and your own wrists. ;)

As it stands the game is SimCityish, which means that some of us are going to cover the map in zoning. That's what it is.

I've actually been taking a break from SBR and going back to visit some of the classics (e.g., Pharaoh and others from the GOG sale) .  The reason they don't fill the map up is that the goal/victory is accomplished before that happens. They also focus on vertical growth rather than horizontal growth.

A break makes sense, and in particular some of the classics like that being mixed in is a great mix for when you come back, heh.  It's true in terms of covering the map in zoning that will be a thing indefinitely.  One thing SimCity does is make it so that it keeps the window for placement open and only closes it when you choose to.  I did that at first with SBR, and am thinking I might need to go back that way.

Beyond that, some of the other things I have planned coming up (territories!) should make a big difference in a desire to grow vertically and handle territory capture in a different way, etc.  Risk was always the third inspiration for this game behind SimCity and Civ, and that got buried more and more along the way except for the combat model.  That's now coming back a bit more in a way that should be really helpful for a lot of things.  Makes me have some shorter-term goals implicitly as with AI War, too, which is another bonus.

wait so if territory's end becoming a thing does that mean building capturing might end up being a thing after all?.

Congrats.

When I was building them last time I drop about 30 every 3 turns, it was tiring.

304 bunkers.  It wasn't that bad.  I had ~50k in housing when I started them.  Build them up as I was placing other stuff.

1278 buildings in total
Still had 4400 unemployed people needing something to do (most of that crime is from them).
7 Districts placed.

I feel like I can still grow it too.  I'm worried about a crime explosion killing off a bunch of people in short order though.

Anyway, I'm done breaking stuff for today.   ;D

@Cinth: Nice. :)

@crazyroosterman: Nope, those buildings would be poofed.  They just don't correspond in function to what your civilization is built around.  And even AIs capturing buildings from other AIs would go bananas in a lot of cases, because they all work differently enough that it would be problematic.

Aww, I've always wanted a vivisection chamber of my very own. I guess now I need to start digging a basement under my garage (my flat isn't at ground level) and start stocking up on sharp and shiny instruments.

Maybe at some point we'll do human versions of some of the buildings so that you can capture things that look like the alien version (same graphics), but with stats that are translated over to your civ.  Could be interesting post-release maybe.

Maybe for Expansion 3: The Vivisection of Ptarth, wherein our intrepid game designer and his loyal excavator attempt to isolate the anatomical source of ideas in SBR's most prolific beta tester.

Sorry. I've already named the first 3 Expansions. You'll have to make that #4. :P
