A break makes sense, and in particular some of the classics like that being mixed in is a great mix for when you come back, heh. It's true in terms of covering the map in zoning that will be a thing indefinitely. One thing SimCity does is make it so that it keeps the window for placement open and only closes it when you choose to. I did that at first with SBR, and am thinking I might need to go back that way.
Beyond that, some of the other things I have planned coming up (territories!) should make a big difference in a desire to grow vertically and handle territory capture in a different way, etc. Risk was always the third inspiration for this game behind SimCity and Civ, and that got buried more and more along the way except for the combat model. That's now coming back a bit more in a way that should be really helpful for a lot of things. Makes me have some shorter-term goals implicitly as with AI War, too, which is another bonus.
