My first impressions.
« on: June 03, 2015, 01:56:18 pm »
Please note,

These are my quick "first impressions notes" of my first ~30 minutes of gameplay(Didn't have enough time that day, I still think that I am quite fresh though so I will expand these notes before the weekend.

These notes have been created without reading up too much of the game for the last few months, which means that my first impression is only tainted with my tech background :)

Anyway, here are my notes/impressions on a chronological order.
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=2624BD52ACB9BBE0!46437&authkey=!AP7XKJd4ZBq2GOI&ithint=file%2cdocx

To summarise:
  • I had no idea what I was doing, except for placing random stuff :P
  • After circa 20 minutes I had a vague idea of what I was doing, most of the initial impressions are just from exploring the GUI.
  • Looks like a number chrushing/survival game 4x game. Number chrushing looks like the primary losing condition for new players.
Will make mantis entries later when I am more sure about my feedback, wanted to share those impressions first :)

Yar. Excessive number crushing has become an unfortunate quirk of all Arcen games, recently.
The beatings shall continue

I don't think that it is unfortunate, actually - I do like it after playing a bit more :)

Thats the lovely thing about a first impression, you see the negative things that get you stuck first(Pretty much due to lack of polish but hey, there is a reason why the game hasn't been released yet).

The adject mechanic for example is really nice and allows you to plan a bit more strategical(Great fun!) and planning resources for housing/jobs to get things done is also quite fun(With the exception that the tooltips might be a bit improved but this is currently a recognised issue).  Mantis 17146.

I also like the small bits of humour that have been implemented in the game. I enjoyed the game a lot more during my second game - Probably because I gave myself some time to process what I had learned.

The game is mostly done and great but the a few minor features(Tooltips, tutorial, flavours texts, I really love flavour texts! :P) are missing, but if you look past those features I see a great game that I will play for hours and hours :)

I am currently in process of converting parts of the text to mantis issues.
