When someone uses a sarcasm tag, I feel like they are insulting my ability to recognize sarcasm. Either that, or they are bad at sarcasm and need the crutch. It's like telling a joke, and explaining immediately afterward why the joke is funny.

Sarcasm is an art, use it cautiously and know your audience.

Sarcasm is heavily culture dependant, and strongly conveyed via posturing and a change in tone. You shouldn't assume that everyone will recognize the references when written and of course the rest don't come in. Even more true on the Internet especially.

So sarcasm tag +1 for me.

I haven't read every comment in this thread but I agree on the early game tech pacing topic. Would be nice if it would allow specialization early on with a few skip-able expensive techs that really make a difference

There is a Civ  4 mod called Fall From Heaven. It is perhaps the best example of diverse research  paths I have seen. Effectively, you choose 2 paths to research down, and don't have access to the other paths. It really makes the different races and pathways matter. There are some caveats to this, but that is out of scope for this immediate problem.  I would like to see a way to specialize a technology track for economic versus industry, but I don't think that should be in the base release. I put it into Expansion 2: Enhanced Ocean Exploitation and Technology Tree differentiation. Catchy title, isn't it?

Note: This post is a mixture of humor and actual content. This is an extra blend beyond the normal ptath drivel. It has 3 disclaimers, so you know it must be good.
