Average Number of Turns in a Game?
« on: June 01, 2015, 10:42:47 pm »
Hi there,

I was about to continue playing my first game through tonight, but that isn't good option based on the new patch being available today and Chris' recommendations to start again.

I'm curious about the game turn length.

I understand it, it depends a lot on play style. This first game I've played 115 complete turns, yet  my game feels as if there's still a long way to go.

Could someone tell me how long their average number of turns for a game playing out to completion (win or lose) ?

My best guess personally is that it's going to be about 600-800 to completion.

But you were having super slow interturns (bugs) if I recall, so that slows you down a lot.  The first time someone plays can also be really a lot slower.  I've played 200 real turns in the span of about 30 minutes before, without feeling like I was rushing or anything.  The turns here are a lot more granular than in Civ, but again that's once you're really acclimated to it past a certain point I think.  I've seen a number of saves that were about 5.5 hours of realtime in, with 400ish turns.

BTW, it really irks me when the game ends just because some player gets a cultural or scientific victory that nobody could do anything about. Can the AI get those? Will we get toggles on the various victory conditions eventually? Can these wait-enough-turns-to-win victories be interrupted or prevented during play?

It's not possible for the AI to win, unlike in Civ, but the same as in AI War.  It's only possible for you to either lose or win.  This is your personal story, about how you come to the world and try to make your own place.  You either succeed or fail to do that.  The AIs have their own goals and things that they are doing, trying to keep themselves established or expand or whatever else, but there is no way for them to "win" in a way that makes you lose.  Beijing getting the Olympics didn't interrupt the US Ares program or anything. :)

will there ever be an option to turn the turn limit of? to me it just seems a bit pointless I mean who realistically is going to go through that many turns in a single game?.

Yeah, that feature is going to die in general.  Thanks for the reminder!

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.
