Ah crap, just realized something too late
« on: May 08, 2015, 04:46:59 pm »
Well, you can't end the turn without updating social stuff when you can do so?

I just realized that because of that, I will next time I get to level up have to get devotion and thoraxians who happen to surround me will go zerg me <_<;

Anyway to prevent that besides blowing up all of my culture buildings right now? Or better question, should there be option to not level up on purpose in the game?

I have mantisized 'force next turn.' feel free to agree with the suggestion :-)

I had thought of this with research before, but it is even more pressing with culture & the looming Bug War threat.

I don't think it realy matters with research since researching the wrong thing cant actually hurt you(would still be nice to have the option to skip though) but this issue sounds like it needs to fixing drastically.

Originally it was not supposed to force you to upgrade anymore after you get into that next tier. Let us know if that's not actually working. Specifically because we know you don't necessarily want that endgame just because you completed the rest of that tree. If you get to that level and it forces you, please give us a save because it's broken. But right now I think you're speculating on an oversight that we didn't make. ;) We might have goofed up the implementation when we redid the way social progress was designed shortly before beta, in which case a save game would be great, but we definitely thought of that case.

The first time it happened I was pretty sure it forced me to choose it. I haven't tried getting it recently.

We may have made a goof when we converted it, then. There used to only be one tree and it was very different, and I know for a fact it worked then. I thought we had re-elected it in the new model but perhaps not. The text during that final section is still hung over from the old model, too.

Well, I'm going to submit my save for different thing so I guess you could check tree at same time <_< But at the moment before you can end turn you have to always choose what to research and select skill from tree when you can, and because of this you will eventually have to select devotion unless you do what I do and sabotage your cultural buildings

Having to always select those things is not something I plan on changing or letting people avoid (I mean, I guess a settings option, but that seems like really a not good thing to ever use).  But making it so that it stops making you choose one in that particular tree once you hit that particular level of stuff is intended to not make you keep doing so.  In other words, acting the current  way up until this point, but then not making you do it after the point you're at -- in that category, anyway -- is the desired behavior.

Huh, so currently game is supposed to not force you to pick devotion?

Good thing I have few earlier saves so I can test it out whether it does that <_< If it does indeed do that, it'd be nice to indicate it somehow since devotion is located in skill tree like any other skill, besides it being unlocked much later

Okay, yeah, it does force you to pick it. I mean, yeah, it gives you chance to cancel picking it, but if you do that, you can't get to next turn as culture upgrade button replaces end turn button and even pressing enter just goes to back to skill tree. Mantis time!

Weirdly enough, thoraxians didn't go zerg on me O_o; Do they do that after you have picked second skill, is it a bug or was it because I'm friendly with thoraxians because of my embassy?

The Thoraxian zerging is currently busted; we fixed the "must choose devotion" thing, but the Thoraxian zerging is something that we are going to redo in light of the new mechanics that we're introducing alongside international incidents anyway.  This will make the volcano path and the Thoraxian zerging waaaay more intense.
