I actually love to play this game from time to time too. It's so satisfying to test something and have it work really well.
...and if it is indeed a game for programmers, maybe I have indeed motivation to learn some programming.

I really liked it up to a point.
At that point it became more of a experiment with it to figure it out since it got very complex. It maybe caused by the fact that for very complex code I use similar approach since you never know what strange things code does until you check ;)
At that moment I lost a bit of interest in trying to continue further.

It would be interesting to find out what would be that answer to "On which level have you stopped playing" for most people.

I can't tell you exactly right now (as I found out space chem saves data to steam cloud but forgets profile if installed elsewhere) but I think I was 3 or 4 planets(or systems) before the end. Most likely somewhere during 3rd planet from end.
