Flash game inspires mobile game returns to PC.
The infection has gone full-circle! :)

Indeed! I'm mostly excited because this actually is a rewrite with new features rather than a port. It's unusual to see anything but a money-grab bad port.

iPad version is ok. Not sure that I want a PC version though. Although there are now way to many ports for mobile to PC as an easy money grab, this one is potentially a quality one. Still I don't see an attraction of owning for PC as well. By the way don't be confused with re-write vs port distinction. Every port is a re-write to certain extent. If they did not see business sense in doing it they would not invest the time (sorry, stating the obvious). Adding superficial "new features" is also a no brainer to entice the former iOS audience.

Disclaimer: having said the above I actually HAVE NOT played the pc version and HAVE NOT seen any gameplay trailers, including the one linked in the OP.

Downloaded the mobile version to my Galaxy Tablet.  It's decent for a free game.

Haha!  One of the news ticker items that just popped up was "Gamers Worldwide start woshiping helix fossil."  Already poking fun at Twitch Plays Pokemon XD

According to steam forums crowd, the changes in the PC version comparing to mobile are minimal (as in non-existent).

That's also because the steam forum crowds are absolutely incapable of reading. It's an early access game, and pretty much all of the new features are still in development, save for the graphics, UI and sounds.

*sigh* Humanity, why?

I do too.  Much nicer than the mobile version.
(Speaking of: my fungus is on its way to eradicating humanity.  One more DNA point and I can sporeburst Spain* into submission)
Edit: damn it.  The one dude in Spain who got infected immediately died.  Even with my (currently) low lethality rating.

*Iceland, Spain, and the Caribbean all managed to escape normal infection routes.  Spain's the last one surviving right now.  The rest of the world is dead.

Except all of its neighbors had 0 population at that point.  I still have no idea how the disease didn't cross the border for the 2000 or so days that it was active.

Yeah, the game has similar problems to Pandemic 2.  Namely that countries can "exterminate all birds" and cut off the water supply entirely.

Riots also don't seem to do anything.  I mean seriously, a country that's rioting and its government is weak shouldn't have closed boarders.  People will be fleeing in droves, government policies be damned.

Well "closed borders" just reduces the chance of people crossing the border, they aren't completely prevented from it. There's even a gene you can unlock that increases the chance to cross a closed border...however that works, on a genetic level...mind control?
