I have only 1 observation. This thread is a perfect example on what people mean when they say that LOL/DOTA/HON communities are toxic.

How about you watch this instead http://videosift.com/video/Honest-Trailers-Prometheus  :o 8)

Erm....what? The thread had nothing toxic in it thus far.

I think what's linked in it is pretty toxic :D

For the lulz.. I did not mean your posts (really, anyones) when I said that this thread is a example on how toxic lol/hon/dota communities are. I meant the stuff you linked to in your first post. ^^ You know, the topic you talked about... PR Disaster and all? ;P

In fact, I thought it an Interesting read. Reinforcing my prejudice about these communities and why I don't play these games, even if I get them for free (Which I actually did.. BLAH). But the topics linked related to this in the LOL forums ... well let's just say they reinforced my prejudices ;p

Ps.: I hated Prometheus - let's start a flame war over that ;)
PPs.: You are all terrible
PPPs.: Yeah, I am bored and trolling this topic because you guys take this stuff so serious.. more or less ;P

I dunno, I'm excited about the Prometheus "sequel".  I think the movie finished in a really good place; I'm excited to see what happens and how it all connects to Alien.

You mean Alien - The movie? ;P That came already out.. hihi

I have to admit, I am a huge HUGE Aliens fan. And I enjoyed Prometheus simply for the attempt, but that's it. Maybe I watched Aliens 1 and 2 too religiously...

don't get me wrong, hate is a too strong word, I just found it didn't connect to Alien 1. This is not a prequel to me, I consider it an alternate reality simply because 1) There is a alien Queen statue in that room 2) The Alien Queen in Aliens 2 came from humans who got face-hugged (in original Aliens, there never even was an Alien Queen! Only eggs) 3) There can not be a Alien queen looking like the one in the statue without humans... nor can she survive infinitely, she lays eggs and dies. Ergo, can there not be a Alien Queen Statue in the Engineer ship without there also being thousands of already grown eggs with facehuggers laying around. It makes no sense. A causality loop. If Engineer DNA is identical to humans especially, there should already be like a dozen thousand eggs on that ship before the human crew even arrives. Most of the bodies they found had holes in their chest. they got identical DNA... ergo .. there should be the Aliens we know from Aliens coming out of them. Yet that doesn't happen.

(Ok, I admit I am maybe too large a Aliens fan to care about such details ;p). I just found that what they showed (Engineers running TO the capsules) would indicate that there were aliens and their workers about. The question is, where did they go. They were obviously not on Ship 1 or Ship 2..... which is a pretty big plot-hole to leave just open like that, imo.

Well obviously.  I said I'm excited to see how it all connects to Alien.

Yeah, it definitely didn't live up to the reputation or quality of its predecessor (irony intended), but I still enjoyed it for the deep philosophical context.  I suppose that people who don't watch movies for that reason may have hated it.  I loved the theme of "searching for god" and "finding meaning through your creator" who ends up hating you in the end.

Ridley Scott even wrestled with the idea for making the execution of Jesus as the cause for the Engineers' mysterious hatred for humans, but thought better of it in the end.  I guess Jesus would have been some kind of "savior" sent by the Engineers to help humanity, and then of course he's crucified instead.

I just think the hidden message of "quit worrying so much about who created you and enjoy your life" and "quit trying to life forever" were really important messages that we could all learn from.  The messages of how futile and even dangerous it is to put such an emphasis on looking for meaning fanatically through your "creators", so much so that you would do "anything and everything it takes" to find the "answers".  With the recent attacks of religious extremists in the world today, it seems very relevant to us even now.

I think in the end (the next movie), Elizabeth is going to find that there are no answers.  Maybe the Engineers don't even have a good reason for wanting to wipe out humanity.  Do we have a good reason for massacring all the species we have and continue to kill daily?  99.9% of species that have ever lived on the Earth have died.  Statistically speaking, we will probably be a part of that number; it's overwhelmingly likely.  We're already setting the stage for our own destruction, which is, in large part, due to the kind of religious fanaticism you see in the movie by the two scientists.

I think my favorite part of the whole movie was when the android asked Charlie why he thought the humans created him?  Charlie's reply was, "Because we could".  And the android looked visibly hurt in that scene and said, "Can you imagine how disappointing it would be to hear that from your creators?"

Like I said, the movie's execution left a lot to be desired, but the philosophical themes that it tackled were extremely important in my opinion.

Yeah these are good points. The movie had important issues it touched but maybe I expected more .. you know, Alien stuff and less philosophy... I usually don't watch Hollywood movies for thinking. And as you say, the movie touched "present day" problems with it but in my mind this simply doesn't work with Alien movies. I want to be scared and have some people I care about getting into trouble. ;P

And to me, even if you touch on philosophy at the end of days when you make a prequel to something like the Alien franchise.. it better feature more than 10 seconds of Aliens.

Prometheus would have been better if they cut out the alien bits and focused instead on more the message.
Life is short. Have fun.

Heh I wouldn't even have minded that to be honest, if it were not at all marketed as an Alien prequel and not even touch the subject. The alien parts and ending seemed tacked on, as if in the last cut Director noticed "holy crap, we forgot the whole point of this movie" . Because if it was not about Aliens, then what the hell was all the Alien stuff for? Just deco to entertain ? And if it was more than than that, then it failed even at being about the Aliens proper. Because in reality what I expected from this movie was a movie about how the Aliens got to that Planet in Alien 1, simply because that's what they hyped it with.

And if they had cut out the Aliens they might have had more time to explain what the Engineers were running from and fleshed out the entire thing properly. Because if it was Aliens then the whole movie makes 0 sense. And if it wasn't Aliens.. then why did the engineers run away from something into the chamber with deadly black goo. Which is deadly to them. And what did they run away from.

You know, it's stuff like that that makes me think "Hollywood directors are children with memory loss" because how can a director see the movie in final cut, and not notice at the very latest right then and there that the entire movie is building on a premise that is never actually substantiated or in any way possible at all. And then the director of Aliens does things that completely go against the lore of Aliens.. meh ^^

I think this thread somehow got located in the entirely wrong forum.  Try here instead.  Or possibly here.

I think Hearteater has a fundamental misunderstanding of what the term "Off-Topic" means ;p

Prometheus was okay. Interesting plot, but lots of plot holes. Well-done visuals though.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

To be fair, I had the same misunderstanding when I saw a huge ol' description of what happened at Riot's tournament, but then I figured if y'all really want to spend your time discussing it, I don't mind ;)

A train simulator where the point is to derail in the most spectacular and destructive way possible would be awesome.

I spent a lot of time destroying buildings in the deliciously granular model in Red Faction: Guerrilla.  Want more.
