Gratuitous Space Battles-free weekend
« on: February 23, 2013, 12:15:06 pm »
Those who know me know that I think this game is the biggest piece of trash, and I felt misled and tricked when I purchased it...

Yes, I'm still upset about this.

So I encourage you to try out the product now while it is a free weekend so you can see for yourself how the game really plays because we all know that the flashy explosions will make you want to buy whatever expansion comes after without realizing that you actually don't control the ships!

It's a ship configurator simulator. Have fun.

You can control the ships now. They respond slowly, but they do.

I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

The campaign mode was fun for a while, but I quit when I realized I wasn't getting anywhere anytime soon (without using some potential trick that, if it worked, would be cheese to the point of being an exploit).

I got bored of the game within the first couple of minutes. I can see why people thought it was interesting but, meh.

I still think this is meant to be a game where, forever whatever reason, you want to see ships smash against each other and after the preplanning orders just watch.

I'm more perturbed at the lack of any sort of balancing.
Life is short. Have fun.

That's basically my stance too.  I don't mind "make a plan and watch helplessly as your plan dies", but it's one of those games that really needs a finely tuned balance.  I wouldn't say it lacks _any_ sort of balancing (to my knowledge, you can no longer build a super-stack of immobile plasma-only ships and win every time), but it's nowhere near balanced.

Just chiming in.

Gratuitous Space Battles is a wonderful concept, and a decent execution, but I will agree that the COMPLETE AND UTTER LACK OF BALANCE MAKES ME WANT TO RAGE SLAM MY KEYBOARD *BASH BASH BASH*.

What's worse is continuing to add NEW CONTENT on the utter sh*tty unbalanced content already there...woo more pretty flashy lights and neat designs.

Just breathe Wingflier, just breathe.

So how do you win in GSB then?

Find something overpowered and crank it to the wall :)

I was not able to find anything. Either balance is perfect or I suck. (I'm guessing which one that is)

From what I remember you always wanted the shields with the max resistance.

And rockets. Lots of them.
Life is short. Have fun.

I got this out of one of the Humble Bundles, and I really couldn't get into.  I wasn't buying into the concept at all, so I didn't even get far enough to experience the balance issues.

Basically this. It's been a while since I last played, but if I recall correctly those plasma things are good too.

I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

I find this enjoyable enough. It may not be impeccably balanced but I do enjoy seeing if I can make odd fleets work. I think a lot of players neglect the order system which can give you a bit more flexibility.

Plus it's fun to watch the ships grind each other into shattered wrecks.
