I think I'll try it with Magika when I get the second controller, since I already own it, but others are too great suggestions. Trine is also quite appealing but then you need *three* controllers. I remember having a look at cortex command and immediately disliking it, but this was when I looked at at as a single player game, I should have another look.

If you can think of anything else, keep them coming, fighters... well I don't really like them that much.
Dude, with Trine, just give the KB/M to the Wizard player. The Wizard player needs that. Then you only need the usual two controllers for the others.
Magicka is probably a nightmare with controller.

re:Magica: this is what I was thinking too, but since someone suggested it I thought that it might have merit =)

Oh, is there a reason by the way why you wouldn't be able to use keyboard and mouse for one player of the three? I looked around, couldn't spot one. It's how my friend and I play. He's the wizard, I'm the everything else, and he just takes the computer chair so he can draw shapes as well as he needs to.

Not at all, that should work. Can you expand on the everything else part. How are you playing to at a time? I was not able to find how to switch between them unless you play solo.

While I suggested magicka with a controller, I should add the warning that I've never played it. I just have heard the multiplayer is fun, can't attest to how well (or poorly) it'll play with a controller.

Oh, you can play two players. You switch to the inactive character when you switch between them. All of the puzzles are the same no matter what mode you play, but the more players you have, the more creative you must be to get past, since switching isn't as free to do. It's just my friend wanted to always be the wizard, so I was never just stuck as the warrior who couldn't move so well because the rogue was free. I could swap to rogue and swing around and all that wonderful stuff. Or likewise, I can go rogue and he can swap to warrior... then I can swap to wizard and steal I'm. =o

Also, Trine 2 has a multiplayer feature that allows you to play as any combination of characters. You could have three rogues if you wanted. I should add that this feature is optional and off by default.

Couple more I thought of.

Rayman Origins is a platformer with simple controls, though it can still get pretty difficult. I've only played it a little but it has nice visuals and is pretty fun. Also works well on gamepad. Not sure how well the thief or wizard in trine work on a gamepad.

Also, not sure if it's your style of game. But I wouldn't discount the likes of golden axe or streets of rage on an emulator. I guess there might be a more modern brawler type game, but I would have no idea what.

The knight in trine works best on gamepad. The rogue works fairly well, but aiming her arrows can be a bit tricky. Grappling hook auto-aims, so that might get irritating for some... And the wizard? He has to draw shapes and drag stuff around. if you aren't using KB/M, you're basically moving a mouse cursor with a joystick. Not so great.

I'll put in a plug for Jamestown as a great top down shooter / bullet hell with local multiplayer. My friends and I played through that together and had a blast, especially in the challenge maps where teamwork really comes into play.

All good suggestions - I like the Jamestown one since I own it too. I also realized that you can play Portal 2 in split screen, controllers are a bit clunky but I hope I'll get used to it

You can play Die Siedler 2 (is it The Settlers in english?) in split screen with 2 mice. Or... at least you could. On DOS, with serial mice :)
