Use the Mantis B cruiser. It has the Four Man teleporter door-to-door with the medbay ;)
I'm not sure how good that is for boarding team morale.

Does it say "Sickbay: here when you need it!" ?

Or "Sickbay: you're gonna need it!" ?

Of course, if you're using mantis it may not matter, their motto is probably "Sickbay: It is a good day to die!"

From the first time I saw the mantis supremacy I thought of this:

But now I'll play that to the tune of this:

Kestrel Type B also has teleporter next to sick bay.  That's what I've been using as I haven't unlocked the Mantis Ship yet.

The Engi A also has them adjacent; I don't think it's a rare thing, but I've only got 3 layouts.

Ah, I must've missed that. I've been eyeing the B-type Kestrel but haven't been able to find any significant differences (aside from aestetics). Good point.

That's the one I normally use, for precisely that reason!

I find myself extremely picky. If I want to go boarding tactics, there are no alternatives. 4 man telly or bust :P Sadly, I have to unlock the Mantis in my normal game, because I only had it when I "cheat" unlocked the ships in order to try them out. Yet to unlock it in my "proper" game.

Managed to mess up the last part of the quest and killed the whole ship instead of its crew. Oops.

Crystal B ship also has a 3 person medic bay next to its 4 person teleport bay.

Medbay is your central base for defense against boarding, I suppose the three man limit is to make it a BIT fairer on boarders.

I don't get why people whine that boarding is OP. Boarding is a fight like any other and with some serious risks. If you don't use tactics you'll get murdered fast but quick retreating to the medbay pretty much always gives the defender the edge. Of course that's one reason crystals are so awesome on the offense, lockdown prevents access to the medbay so even the final boss crew goes down easily.

Boarding is way more powerful than pretty much anything else in my experience because of how it's almost impossible to stop (the energy shield and the cloak are the only things I can think of that stop it) and you can use it the instant battle starts with no charge-up.  And the damage it can do isn't really finite, depending on the situation.

But boarding is also way more risky.  No other weapon system I'm aware of has a significant chance of being lost altogether in the process of being used.

Considering the risk/reward intensity, I'd say it's the iconic weapon of FTL :)

Boarding also has the problem that you are risking your crew, which is hard to get by, and you are investing points into two, otherwise useless, systems (Teleporter and medbay).

On the other hand, I've found that countering the enemy medbay in time is a the key to win. If you can't take it out with weapons, have your two mantis boarders follow the escapee to the medbay. Two mantises can outdamage even a mark 2 medbay on a single target. Only works if you have other boarders to keep the rest of the crew busy, of course :P

Yea, having some kind of bomb is very important for dealing with medbays.  Or a crystal guy, the thing that lets boarding counter its main counter ;)
