Where to send crash reports?
« on: October 25, 2013, 12:14:59 pm »
So, picked up the game after hearing really nice things about it.  Unfortunately I am unable to play at all.  The game crashes on Stage 3 - Loading GUI every single time.  The error message that pops up states to send the crash report to the developers but I am unable to find a place to send it to.  Your contact page says to not send tech support/bugs to the email listed.

So.. where can I send these?

I am running Windows 7 64 bit and have tried disabling my AV software - ESet NOD 7.0.302.0

The top of the error.log file looks like this:
Code: [Select]
Unity Player [version: Unity 4.2.1f4_4d30acc925c2]

d3d9.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)

All my drivers are up to date, so I'm really at a loss.  I have tried the release version and the latest beta (1.004) with the same results.

Any help or suggestions would be great.  Thanks

Go to Arcen's Mantis bug tracker and report it there. Arcen sees stuff you report here, but since there are a lot of reports and suggestions, it's more likely that it will be attended to if you put it there since they can keep track of the issue rather than having to remember a random forum thread.

I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Actually no particular need to put this one in mantis, it's just part of the Antivirus thing I suspect: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,14041.0.html

ESet is one of the AVs I've seen when googling around for these sorts of error messages, there's just a subset of AVs that are natural predators to Unity-based games and they often continue to be so even when "disabled".  I've posted what solutions I know of to the above-linked thread, but don't have much to add beyond that, I'm afraid.

Sorry about the inconvenience, if I learn of other ways to make such habitats not murder our games I'll be sure to let you know :)

Confirmed that this particular antivirus hates Unity 3D games (and the editor) for whatever reason.  This applies to AVAST, ESET Nod, and apparently also Kaspersky.  But only certain versions of those antivirus programs (some versions fix the issue, then others add it back, and so on).  Various things on google about it with the unity editor and other unity games:  https://www.google.com/search?q=ESet+NOD+unity+3d&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Well, uninstalled ESET and game still crashed.

The game has issues with WindowBlinds.  Adding it to the exception list for windows that should not get decorated fixed the problem.  Game launches with no issues.

Just an FYI - I have never had an issue with Unity games and ESet.  Shadowrun Returns runs flawlessly, and now this game seems to run perfectly also.

Oh! WindowBlinds.  We'd heard of that before, sorry I didn't think to mention it :)  Thanks for the tip.

So is the situation workable for you now?

Game launches and I can get to the main menu.   I will try to play some later (actually have to do real work now).

Thanks guys.
