AVWW Dedicated Server - Display Issue
« on: May 02, 2012, 05:38:49 am »
I run an AVWW dedicated server (AVWW.exe -server -world "name") on Windows Server 2008 R2 (rack-mounted server hardware). It is a headless machine and is entirely accessed through a Remote Desktop session. The AVWW server launches fine and can be connected to and played on perfectly.

Unfortunately the window on the server looks like this:

Which can make it a little bit difficult to use. Is there any chance of a console/command line based server or is there a solution to this display problem?

It is not a huge problem since settings can be changed in the file directly or I can log into the game but it would be nice to see who is online from the server.

If you log into the game remotely from a game client, you can use various admin commands to do most things on the server through the chat interface.  I don't think there's a way to list the players online in that fashion yet, but that's something we need to add.  In terms of adding a way to interact directly with the server through the command line, that unfortunately isn't possible due to the nature of the game engine we use.

Thanks for the response.

I have claimed admin rights from the game client and that is easy enough to administer from, although an UP/DOWN key to repeat commands would be nice.

Are there plans for more server commands from the client?

Some additional commands that would be handy:
Set maximum number of players
Set server advertisement
Save and backup (and shutdown?) functionality

Absolutely we plan more admin comments -- we've added several already in post-release content, and it's just a matter of people letting us know what they want to see and us having time come up in our roster of other things we're adding to the game.  If you don't mind putting the command suggestions up on our mantis idea tracker, that would be a huge help for us keeping it all organized.

Thanks!

Just added for 1.008:

** echo_list_of_connected_players
*** The server sends you a chat message listing all connected players (username and player number, same as displays if they chat).
*** This command does not require admin rights.
** echo_list_of_all_players
*** The server sends you a chat message listing all players (username and player number, same as displays if they chat), whether they are currently connected or not.
*** This command does not require admin rights.

Thanks :)
