Noob questions about ARS
« on: August 08, 2013, 03:00:23 am »
Hi, I'm just starting out with this game (all tutorials done, a 4/5 campaign almost complete after 12 (!) hours, etc...) but I have some questions about Advanced Research Station/Ship

  • when you "scan" one of this with a science lab you can see list of 3 ships that can be obtained. Is it true that you will obtain the left-most one?
    or is it random?
according to wiki if you save/reload you'll obtain the same ship every time. Is it the left-most one?

  • is the list of available ships the same for every ARS? Or is this list the same for every AI?
in other words: we have 2 AI. Every AI has one or more ARS.
Do all AI1's ARS share the same unlockable ships? so is capturing the second ARS of the same AI worthless?

In my game I captured an ARS without scanning and I obtained space tanks. Then I scanned another one and the list shows again exactly the same ships. Capturing it unlocked space tanks again (!) so it was worthless.

  • is it possible to research MKII versions of ships unlocked capturing ARS? If so, from were?My space lab "ARS" tab shows 3 ships (I suppose these are the list of unlockable one) but are all grayed out (even the ship I have unlocked)

Thanks in advance!

1. In my experience, yes.

2. No, all the ARS are different. Maybe you can get overlaps but there is not just one type of ARS for each AI. Capturing an ARS is almost always beneficial, and if the left most option is already unlocked you can hack it for one of the others.

I've never experienced this, not sure if its a bug or just unlucky. Were the other options also identical to the first ARS? As that does seem like a bug, or an unlucky coincidence.

3.Yes, through your normal science labs you will find the ships you unlock in the ARS are now alongside your other fleetships ready for higher marks to be researched. Remember you also get an additional 500 knowledge from ARS planets to help facilitate this (though you don't have to).

Also note (Keith if you spot this I think its a bit ambiguous so could due to be fixed) that when you send a science lab to check the ARS ship options they are listed in the ARS tab of the science ship as the MKII variants, this is due to previous versions of AIW giving you both MKI+II ships from an ARS, but is no longer the case.  This probably also explains why its greyed out as you may have the MKI unlocked, but not the MKII.

I'll check others ARS and report the results.

I'll report this on mantis

The ARS tab is so that when you hack an ARS you can pick which of the three you want (and then they gray out as normal).  If you go to the fleetship tab of any research station or ARS, you can unlock the new marks as normal.

I've checked and other ARS have different unlockable ships, so maybe it was just bad luck.
Indeed, this game is without any expansion and with simple ship list, so I think probability of obtaining the same unlocks are higher.

It's not supposed to give you the same unlocks.  They are always supposed to be different.
May the Force be with you.

And the Triforce too.  :D
