No ship limit cheat
« on: October 31, 2009, 04:31:12 am »
Hi,

I'm considering activating the no ship limit cheat in my game, but I don't know if this will just be something which will ease a bit my gameplay, or if it will in the end completely ruin the balance and allow me an easy win. What do you feel about this cheat? Is it a major one for you or just a minor boost in the grand scheme?

Would you say this could be 'compensated' somehow at start, if instead of having +1 progress every 5 mn, I had +1 every 4 or even 3 mn? Your opinion?

Using that cheat code changes the game quite fundamentally. One of the major advantages of capturing an ARS or unlocking a new ship type is that it increases the total number of ships you are able to deploy.

I'm inclined to think it would make things quite a lot easier for you, so as you say you'll probably have to up the difficulty you normally play on to 'compensate'. The strength of a fleet is (approximately) proportional to the square of its number, so the huge fleets you could build up may well steam-roll the AI.

Let us know how it goes.

One way that you can get more ships while keeping things completely balanced is to just add more starting planets when you are starting a new game from the lobby.  That doesn't require cheats, and for the most part acts as if you were playing the parts of several human players all by yourself.

good idea. Also the problem is this cheat is that I know I would build massively some ships and not others, like for example I'm enamored ;) with Flagships... Imagine 15 Flagships as a standard fleet, yes this would be a bit powerful...

Really? So you get 2 different shipcaps / twice the cap that way? Must try ;o

Yep -- and you can do it with up to 8 planets to start, as well -- with 8x the cap in that fashion.  This also works in multiplayer, where players can divide up the starting positions as they choose.  Just bear in mind that the AI gets however many more times ships to start, and in waves, as well.  So you can make it like an 8-player game (16x total waves each time) all by yourself.  The otherdownside is that, while you are also very rich because of all the awesome home planets you have, you now have that many more weak spots, too -- and if a player loses one home command station, they lose them all.

Would it be possible and of interest to get an option in the setup, allowing the "rebuy" of unlocked ships? For example I want to increase my ship limit in Fighter III, I can do so by unlocking again Figher III. You could rebuy indefinitively a same ship, but restrictions could be added, like a compounding +25% or even +50% to each rebuy?
