(That reminded me about testing a large blob in Unity... it didn't crash at 5 000 ships, but it was lagging severely, I believe from the effects/overlay of the stealth.  I'm going to miss these... :/)
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

5000 ships, bah. You're not thinking like a pro player. 5000 ships is way too small a fleet; you need at least triple that  :D

No seriously, that is an impressive fleet, and it is good to know that Unity can (but just barely) handle that sort of load.

I got one suggestion; to make the text on the map more prominent. I got problems seeing the numbers of hostiles and what not on the map with the small red text without looking really close and focusing. (it also seems my planet crosses are rotating, showing different alignments all the time). :)

It also seems the planet summary is swapping places with the top and bottom ;)

Not that I'm really commenting on it one way or the other, but what influenced the decision to "re-blob" the home system?

Having stuff so far away just felt odd, in practice, I think.  It seemed to annoy most veteran players, who preferred to consolidate, and for new players it seemed to be a point of confusion where they didn't even realize that other stuff was out there.

I actually was a big fan of the three settlements rather than one.

Assuming the shift back is here to stay (and it sounds like there are compelling reasons for it to do so) I'd be in favour of exploring similar concepts toward a similar end.

Quite what those might be at this juncture, I have absolutely no idea.

Maybe 3 settlements will become an AI plot switch for them that wants it

Is the research cost 0 for bomber starships Mk II and III intentional?

I was wonderung about that... Also i still have a few moments of sound stuttering in the game.

I'm experiencing the same kind of game-ending retaliation from the AI time and time again. I tried 3717 yesterday and 3718 today, getting the same result: I hang around my base, assemble a fleet and fortify nearby wormholes, then lash out against the best looking nearby system in order to capture it. I am not entirely certain that the following behaviour by the AI is a reaction to my actions, but a 30-40 minutes or so into the game, the AI (diff 7/7 and diff 6/6) arrives with no mention of a wave or attack, with a huge fleet of mkII, mkIII and mkIV ships as well as a bunch of guardians and sometimes starships. They usually eat through my fleets and turrets in a minute or so.
I might have misinterpreted the changes and fixes report, but I am under the impression this was identified and fixed in today's beta, why I thought it worth mentioning.

Can confirm yet another game ending in 20 minutes, again shortly after I take the first system: Several mk III guardians entering my home system unannounced, then a bunch of normal mkII ships come along. At this point in time, the artillery mkIII guardian effectively reduced what was a seemingly well turreted system with an army of 100 mkI one ships to nothing.

well, this beta certainly feels much more polished now. the reference sheet is a work of pure awesomeness. still really have to get used to the changes, and i haven't had the time to finish a whole game, but it feels like it's getting right on track for 4.0.

May suggest to make information boxes and font size a bit smaller?  ;D

To counterbalance this, I would rather not have to squint the whole time I'm playing the game - my eyesight isn't exactly stellar to begin with.

Yup, we had plenty of people wanting it larger than it used to be.  I think it's a good size right now.

The ideal solution would be to have some kind of scaling option - is that viable using unity? A changeable font size- globally across all tool-tips, perhaps. I'm not suggesting you try and get that in for the final release though, of course :D

Overall, I really like the changes. Giving people the initial range of starships is a great idea. A very natural (and logical) direction in combination with the smaller default unit caps. Haven't played enough to comment on balance or anything, but will do so when I've played a little more.

Oh yes and the reference sheet- long overdue and utterly brilliant :)
