Since my buddy and I play this game once every week or two at most, using beta updates means that the rules can change significantly between play sessions, and we have a hard enough time remembering them as it is. So, official releases only.

I do it usually when it comes out, but especially if it's bug fixes or buffing a ship that i use much.

God, if I updated when I finished a game, I would probably never update. I'm still new, so I average about 3 hours play for 1.5 hours at most of actual in-game time passing. I've also abandoned games for various reasons, and I'm hoping this newest one (2 and a half hours in) is going to stick so I can actually do an AAR of "my first game" (meaning the first game I actually finished).
