Hold fire?

It strikes me that the cloaking on the starship scout is of little relative value because it insists on firing on everything with its pathetic little laser.

Well, the cloaking is valuable if you keep it out of range of anything that it could fire on.  This is why the cloaking scouts are needed, they have no guns and are purely for scouting.  The scout starship is really meant to be more of a hard-to-kill mobile scanning station to go with your fleets.  If it worked better as a pure scout, the true scouts would be pretty useless. :)

In fact, the cloaking ability was something that I just added recently for the scout starship, and the main reason I did that was so that it could sit at a planet without getting reamed by sniper fire.

Ah, gotcha. I just wait for one to be built and send it far afield until it dies. Resource management? WTF?

Ha.  Yeah, you can do that with the scouts to an extent, and I commonly do, but for the starship that doesn't quite work in a cost-to-benefit ratio sense.

Don't start throwing numbers at me sonny, just send that ship to some distant corner and if it lets us place another colourful priority marker... sweet ;)
