Intended wave size?
« on: November 24, 2010, 02:52:58 pm »
Say on a diff 7.3 (both AIs), what is the intended wave size at starting AIP (usually around 20 thanks to Spire Civs)?

That varies enormously by AI type, and the types of ships in the waves.  It could be anywhere from a few dozen to a few hundred (in a few cases perhaps as many as 400) per wave part (in single player, there are generally two wave parts).  I know that's not the specific answer you're looking for, but there variance is pretty enormous even though it is centered around the two factors you mention.

In that case I can say something's wrong with my current game. Each wave announced (no wave modifier) have been 700-750 for three consecutive waves now.

Are you talking about the individual line items are that high, or the combined line items when the two are added together?  I was talking about the individual line items.

Generally speaking, though, I'm not aware of any issues with the wave sizes at the present time.  People keep bringing up stuff, but there's always some other factor making them larger: mad bomber type, whatever.  I'll be really surprised if this is a bug, honestly.

If I thought it was a bug, I'd posted it on Mantis ;)

The reason I haven't is that I'm not entirely sure it's NOT supposed to be this way. Unfortunately, I can't tell the AI type due to me using random types, unrevealed.

But, as of yet, I have no wave increasing structures and have been hit by waves (single waves, only one wave warning) of 700-750 ships, usually a mixed bag, but that's because I'm using schizo waves.

Theoretically speaking, if one AI was a turtle type (no wave type), would the other get larger waves to compensate, or would that require something else? Also, does Mad Bomber get LARGER waves, or just more frequent?

The frequency of waves never gets adjusted by the AI type, only the size of waves.  The mad bomber gets double-sized waves.  If it's using something very high-cap as a ship type (and depending on what ship scale you're using, too, actually -- if you play on High, then you can double all the numbers I mentioned, which were for Normal), then you could get into that sort of territory.

Turtle AI types get extra reinforcements, they don't have waves or boost those of their allies either.

Ah, in that case it's starting to make more sense. I'm running on high ship caps, so it's quite likely that is the culprit. I totally forgot to mention that, btw.

Also, reading back at my posts, I see I come along as quite prissy. Sorry >.<

Tired and a headache, so probably not thinking through what I'm typing :D

Oh, ok -- yeah, then expect double what I was saying.  That would do it! :)

And you didn't come across as prissy, no worries.

At the end of a circles map game I was just playing, I killed one AI home then made a mad dash for the other. The AI meanwhile launched a wave of 78 000 ships. In the end I won - due to a forcefield bug, I suspect (another story) - but the AI carriers wrought a path of destruction eight planets deep!
