Engineers acting weird
« on: September 24, 2014, 03:40:42 am »
Engineers have been acting weird lately. They build something and then they just keep "building" it even though it's already built. Sometimes they refuse to build anything. I'm trying to build some turrets and I ordered the Engineers next to the Turrets with attack move so they should stay near that area and build/repair stuff.. they didn't do anything. I was building some additional Lightning Turrets because there was a big Bombers mono wave coming. The game got a bit laggy.. then the Engineers started acting weird.

Is it the lag that causes this and the cloaking super boosting problem? I haven't seen Engineers acting like this before.

In the attached screenshot I simply ordered the Engineers next to the Matter Converters with attack move.. this time they did start building.. but they don't stop unless I manually stop them. I think they will stop eventually but it would take minutes. It's like they get stuck at certain phases.

They're not building, they're assisting.  That would be a warhead silo and if you manually told them to build it, they have it locked as their "build this" target which persists as an "assist build queue" target.  Because the silo isn't building anything at the moment, the engineer lines are red.

Well I wasn't talking about assisting nor the Missile Silo.

A couple of times I wanted to build some Turrets but the Engineers didn't build/assist the turrets even though they were in range.

Sorry, skimmed the post and took a look at the image.  About half your engineers are "assisting" the missile silo, so I assumed that that was the issue.

Try selecting them all and hitting [END] on your keyboard.  That will completely clear all orders (manual and auto-assigned) and make them pick new targets.  Do note: a silo that is in the cooldown period between warheads (there's a several minute delay between building warheads of the same type) will still "attract" Engineering assistance, even though the engineers can't do anything (similar to the 3-second-post-damage repair delay: the engineer will be attempting to assist without being able to do anything).  If you want to make sure the silo isn't attracting attention, put it into paused-building mode / stand-down.

But making them all re-evaluate their targets should make them properly split the workload again.  If that doesn't work, there might be something buggy.

See the comment I left in the cloaking super boosting thread.  It's a performance related lag.  Those engis will move on when the game cycles back to them.  Sometimes it takes awhile.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Yeah I thought it was something like that.
