Late game they are affordable, but early and mid-game they're redundant when you can tech/spam III/II bombers that are far more effective at destroying structures instead of waiting for your dreadnoughts to clear the planet.  Increase in damage bonus vs structures would fit with the '12 speed' persona.

If dreadnoughts could actually destroy structures with greater rate, I would consider them; however, as it stands, they are not useful.  If we speak about the bonus of engine damage, obviously riot starships are better suited for that type of task, and have similar range, though of course not really helpful against structures. 
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

Update: talked to Chris, he was more amenable to some changes than I thought.  Dreadnoughts currently in the process of being given a more "distinctive" style.  Rename included.

Update: talked to Chris, he was more amenable to some changes than I thought.  Dreadnoughts currently in the process of being given a more "distinctive" style.  Rename included.

Well you certainly aren't the first to voice these thoughts... and honestly the changes aren't intended to produce an overall-better unit trade-off wise; it's going to be expensive and have lots of weaknesses and need a lot of support, but it is intended to be very, very good at its specialty.

Thats fine with me soo long as they do have a specialty or role to fill.
And on another note now that the name Dreadnought is free might we see a new golem with that name.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Not a golem, I don't think.  That would be more like "Juggernaught" :)  But if we do that it will be well down the road.

IMO I've always wanted to see a golem named fluffy destroyer of worlds he could be twice the size of a regular golem and fire a salvo of 10 mark 3 nuclear warheads at a time (because one just isn't enough)............. Also he can teleport!!!

heh, it would be funny. It would naturally be in the same vein as the galaxy-wide nuke cheat, gotta do it at once.
