Indecisive Hives
« on: August 20, 2010, 06:07:52 pm »
Strangest bug name ever.

Since the newest update, (.186) the hybrid hives I have encountered have started the old indecisive "going backwards for a few seconds, then forwards for a few seconds" behaviour, causing them to get fairly stuck deciding to leave a planet or attack a station. I don't think this happens on your own worlds, but it definitely does on neutral, and possibly hostile worlds. I don't have a save of it happening, but if I come across it again I will try to post one.

Not sure if this counts as a fully fledged bug, but figured I would let you know.

There are intentional behaviors that lead to this, like being on the approach to start an attack mission but then pulling back as more reinforcements start heading towards them from other systems.  That will later get more nuance in terms of "do we really need these extra reinforcements", but for now it is as it should be.  To check if a given ship has an attack order, turning on debug info (F3) and mousing over the hybrid gives you some info (Attacker, Captain, Besieger, Admiral, Ninja, and Annihilator are all attacker types).

Also, builder types will wander back and forth quite a bit.  Only defenders tend to be sedentary.

If there's a specific case you think is a bug, please report it and provide a save and I'll take a look :)

Fair enough. It didn't seem like ordinary back and forth, but it's not a big problem. Next time I come across it I'll make sure to make a save for you anyway.
