Community DLC Suggestion Poll: Week of 4/18/10
« on: April 19, 2010, 02:23:23 am »
Community DLC voting for the week is now underway!

The nominations that receive high amounts of votes will receive higher consideration to be DLC in the near future. If a particular piece of content is likely to be out-of-scope for the near future, it will be kept on a list of content we would like to see in the next expansion (Q4 '10). Please note that we may not know whether or not a suggestion will need to be shelved until after the voting.  Also bear in mind that this is Chris/x4000's game and inclusion of any content is ultimately his decision!

The voting will last one week. The next nomination topic will begin on the 25th.

Thanks for your participation!

Whoops, somehow the planetary poisoning link was given for Zerg Rush. Here's the proper link: http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,4546.0.html

If we weren't going for your money, you wouldn't have gotten as much value for it!

Downloadable Content (i.e. new features added for free or otherwise onto an existing game, though for this vote it's free). Clearly you're not a console gamer ;)

Its kinda odd given all of the issues with the endgame how the two endgame options only have one vote apiece...

Well, I am trying to focus on the endgame, but Tidalis is really pulling a lot of our development resources right now (understandably so), so that isn't on the fast track near so much as I would like.

Voted for AI progress alerts: good for new players and the easily distracted (me!).

Would love to see better minefields but the suggestion in that thread is to complex and unwieldly, imo. So yes, please improve mines but in an elegant and intuitive way.

Edit: Btw, improving transports could be another option here. I would vote for that! It's an active topic as changes are being made in the latest betas, though the jury is still out on where exactly transports are headed. Thread: http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,4712.45.html

Edit again: Voted for alerts + mines after all. As eraser clarified, the whole point is to remove single mines. I agree with that.

Its kinda odd given all of the issues with the endgame how the two endgame options only have one vote apiece...

From what I understand, they're very similar. Maybe this is the reason?

Exo galactic revenge: "This would function somewhat like a CPA, in that a huge number of ships would spawn on the core homeworld and push through to the nearest player planet" And so on, to the player home world.

Zerg rush: "When the AI homeworld in question dies, it releases all mark I ships to attack you immediately, then after a couple of minutes all MkII" And so on, to the player home world.

Or maybe they're just not fun?

Neither excites me. In any game, I've already faced a billion hordes on my way to the AI homeworlds. What will facing a few more add? Besides, an end-game CPA when I've already won would suck :P "You win!!" would become "You win... now DIE!!" My fleet can't be everywhere at once for a gigantic CPA/zerg at the end game and my turrets sure wouldn't be able to handle it.

The sad thing is that this is not "simple" even if i had wanted it to be ^^

Better Minefields directly affects AI and Player - in System placement, counter-measures and research. Just applying a range to the single mines wouldn't solve the problem so yeah ;p

Mm, true. Anyhow, you reclarified the initial point nicely over here: http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,4635.msg33695.html#msg33695.

Voted for mines + alerts, 'cause I could :)

In terms of endgame, I'm of the opinion that we need things to challenge you on the way to the ai command center more than stuff that happens after one dies.  With the 2nd case, if the "bad stuff" happens slow enough, it just encourages you to setup a situation where you can hit both ai homeworlds one after another(say neuter one and then hit the other, then kill the first).  If it happens too fast, you know whats going to happen, so you just would need to setup counter measures before taking out the first ai planet(again, neuter + prepare).  Thus I'm much more in favor or something along the lines of having the option to kill key structures scattered around to somehow reduce the power of some mega defender or something on the homeworld.

2 votes per person -- it should actually be 78, so some people are only voting for one item.
