Auto AI Progress Settings
« on: April 25, 2010, 03:25:54 am »
Hello,

First I just wanted to give a big thumbs up to anybody who's had a hand in this game, truly amazing.

My question is about the Auto AI Progress settings. It seems that for me, I randomly get different settings. For example, I looked at the settings before hosting a game and it was set to someting like 75 / 1. Another time it switched to 20 / 5. If I read the tooltip it states that it is recommended to go for 1 / 5.

Is that the setting that should be kept? ` Ai Progress per 5 minutes?

I had a game with my friend running at 75/1 and, by the time we had 3 systems each, the AI had Tech 4 ships and 4-5k ships with multiple starships in the mix.

Thanks!

75 every 1 minute is pretty much suicide. I usually run at 1 every 10 minutes or even no increase. If you are new, I'd recommend you use a low value (no more than 20 every hour total) or no increase at all.

I do this ALL the time, and I should probably make a suggestion about it.  What happens is that I go to the tab to change the minor factions, and then scroll wheel down to go down the list of minor factions.  The Auto AI Progress box always gets focus though so instead of scrolling through the box as you intended it, you've actually increased AI progress to something insane.  For some reason you don't usually notice the box changing either when you do it, you just think scroll wheel doesn't work.  It took a few tries before I realized what was going on myself.

Aha!

That must be it!

Seriously, 75/5 was a very intense game. 3 Planets each, and we were against a Tech IV AI with 2k+ ships all around... :S

Thanks for the tip!

Now the AI feels like a pushover at 1 Progress / 5 minutes. :P

Hmm, maybe we should have the auto-progress-amount box glow bright red when the effective amount per hour exceeds 300 or so ;)

I think simple fix would be just to have the minor faction box take focus instead of AI progress, then it would be hard to accidentally make a change.  Although a 'Warning: What you are about to attempt is insane' box might be amusing too. :)

;D

I was thinking something like the multi-homeworld-start "are you sure" prompt.
