Community DLC Suggestion Poll: Week of 1/24
« on: January 24, 2010, 11:38:34 pm »
The first week of community DLC voting is now underway! The nominations that receive high amounts of votes will receive high consideration to be DLC in the near future. If a particular piece of content is likely to be out-of-scope for the near future, it will be kept on a list of content we would like to see in the next expansion (Q4 '10). Please note that we may not know whether or not a suggestion will need to be shelved until after the voting.  Also bear in mind that this is Chris/x4000's game and inclusion of any content is ultimately his decision!

The voting will last one week. The next nomination topic will begin on the 31st.

Thanks for your participation!

Voted for Engine Burn Effects and the Draggable planets -- the two features least likely to get in the game before the expansion :(

Is there any way to get this thread more noticable in sticky format or in the header somehow so that we can get everyone possible involved? Anyway, my vote is up and I'll have some suggestions for consideration soon. :)

Mouse Scrolling view - This really is a must-have feature as it would be much faster than relying on the minimap and the middle button isn't used in the game anyway. Gotta have it.
Adjustable Resources Cap - Ever have an epic 20+ hour game where you were constantly maxed in resources, but still didn't have enough to instantly build the big stuff? I have and wished the cap was much higher. Gotta have it.

P.S. I wrote a thread in Balances that got ignored which basically mentioned that the Zenith Viral Shredders were way too overpowered and that would fall under vote item number two here, but I was under the impression that this poll was for new features - not tweaks. Anyway, here's my write up of the Shredders: http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,3430.msg22035.html#msg22035. I'm voting for something else though cause I feel new features are different than existing units needing tweaking.

P.P.S. Go Saints!!

Voted for rebalance and the Adjustable Resource Cap. The Adjustable Resource Cap would be a very nice addition for more cooperation in multiplayer games, instead of having to trade extractors every time.

Now, now, RCIX, every little thing is gonna be allright. As I understand it, this poll is recommending ideas, there is no guarantee, that the feature that wins the poll will ever go into the game. If X likes your idea, I am sure that it will go into the game, no matter if it was in the poll or not.

I voted for formation move, btw.

Formation move, definitely.  I'm a heavy use of Cloaker starships and without formation move it becomes very micro intensive to keep a raiding party all inside their range.

Other then that...  I guess the Riot starship sounds kinda cool.  I dunno, if I could vote for formation move twice I would.  :)

I know, i was just a little sad about it not getting more votes right then. Oh well, i can always re-nominate it! :)

Mouse scrolling and formation movement gets my votes - micromanaging two simultaneous attacks becomes a bit of a problem at later AIP levels (200-300 ish) without those. Rest, I can live without for a longer time :)

Formation Movement
Adjustable Resource Cap

Secondary
Everything else, actually.

EDIT:  Format fail.

X, since this week's voting is nearly over, is there any possibility of getting some comments on the results? Specifically, what we're looking for are any clues as to what should or shouldn't be worth re-nominating next week. Anything you could do help in that area (as in, planning on doing it soon, vs won't be doing anytime soon, or just plain indifferent) would make the transition to the next nomination phase a bit easier.

We probably only need comments on the entries that received significant amounts of votes.
Time to roll out another ball of death.

My thoughts at present:

Unit: Riot Starship - I think this is a cool one, and something to do for this month's free DLC.
Rebalance: Special unit re-balance (post triangle change) - Balance is always something we look at just as a matter of course, and we'll definitely look at this before long, either way.
Concentric Circles Map - New map types are only for expansions, but I'll keep this in mind for the next one.
Feature: Deathmatch survival gametype - New gametypes of this scope are probably for expansions.
Feature: Engine Burn Effects This is a pretty substantial feature to work in (not from a coding sense, but in terms of lining up all those burns with the various ship hulls), and I suspect it will harm performance for nearly everyone who uses it, so this makes it not a terribly high priority for me personally.  But, given that this is fairly popular of a request, I will definitely keep it in mind for the schedule.
Feature: Formation Movement Mode This has been something that I have thought is very cool for quite some time, and from the votes it seems this is the clear winner, too.  We've implemented a partial version of this already, and we'll do some more iterations in the coming weeks with expanding this functionality.
Feature: Draggable planets in galaxy view I'm not real sold on this one for a lot of the reasons people cite in the thread about it.
Feature: Mouse Scrolling view This seems like definitely one to do, any it should be pretty quick.
Feature: Configurable Autosaves There probably needs to be more discussion about specifics, because there have been a lot of ideas about this over the months, but I think this is something that deserves some attention.
Feature: Adjustable Resource Cap This is referring to just the spillover of resources to allies, which I hope people realized when they were voting.  I think that aspect will be great, and something to look at.  If people were mistakenly voting for this thinking it was an adjustment of the overall cap of resources you can amass, that's not something I'm willing to change because of balance reasons; there are cheats for essentially infinite resources for those people who want that.  But, assuming that people were voting for what this feature actually is, as per the link posted in the first thread, I'm with them that I think this would be helpful.  Though, I wonder if perhaps one of the other suggestions about something like Trading Posts, etc, might be a better way of solving this same problem.
