Changing settings of game in progress?
« on: September 18, 2014, 03:12:52 am »
I just started a new game and am 2 hours in when I realized I forgot to turn off the +1 AI every 30 minutes setting.   I like to take my time, so I usually disable it, but forgot.

Any way to change it after?

Ah, I found a "save uncompressed game" setting and it looks like the 1,30 on the 3rd line is it.  I'll try that tomorrow and see how it works.

Edit: That didn't work, the REAL settings are on the last line of the file.  Changing the first set of numbers does nothing, but the second set works.

As a fellow person who takes there time, I've been using 1 AIP/15 minutes and it really doesn't mean that much during the game. Most of my games end at 15 to 20 hours. That's 60 to 80 AIP. But I'm attacking the homeworlds somewhere in the mid-to-high 200s including that AIP over time. It's enough pressure to remind me not to just throw away hours of play time for small gains, but not really enough to affect the end-game. I actually credit it with bringing my win times down close to 15 hours. I just play faster, and as a result I get more games in :) .

What kind of maps do you play on?  200-60-10 is only 130 which is like 6 planets taken.  My games have been on the beginner 2 tutorial which are 80 planets.  I can't imagine winning only taking six.  I'm going to struggle at only taking 25 in this game, assuming I don't lose well before that.  :)

Don't forget that all maps come with 8 Datacenters and 4 CoProcessors - that's between 110 to 250 AIP reduction, plus there's the SuperTerminal in many maps that you can use to get additional AIP Reduction from.

Ah, right.  In the few games I've played I've never found all four co-processors in spots that were reachable without spending more AIP capturing unneeded planets to get to them.   It always seems to stick one of them WAY in the middle of nowhere.

I need to play more games. :)

Yes, all DC and CP taken. I used to ride ST for 60-70 as well. That was before the more recent changes. Not sure how long I could go now.

I'm not trying to be a jackass but that alone doesn't tell much.
What's the difficulty level?

People should always mention the difficulty level when talking about stuff like this.
set /A diff=10
if %diff%==max (
   set /A me=:)
) else (
   set /A me=SadPanda
)
echo Check out my AI War strategy guide and find your inner Super Cat!
echo 2592 hours of AI War and counting!
echo Kahuna matata!

I don't play below 9 unless I'm messing around with something really odd. You can safely assume I'm always in the 9s. I've won 10 a few times at various patch points, but when the balance is reasonable 10 just requires too static of a strategy for me to enjoy playing a lot of. Anywhere in the 9s and I feel I've got a really open field for how I tackle any given game. By way of example, when I returned after about a year, I warmed up on 9/9 and had no difficulties despite including Spire Hard and Golems Medium. And, as I mentioned elsewhere, I very very rarely use warheads. I actually dislike the name warhead (that implies it is attached to something else that delivers it) and I also dislike nukes, because that isn't what they are. So for those purely silly reasons, I just don't even bother with them.
