Any volunteers for helping do updates to the official wiki?
« on: October 25, 2010, 12:25:37 pm »
I'm drowning in some of this stuff, guys, and I don't think I can get it all done in time, even with our three day extension.  Anyone knowledgeable about the game care to help with wiki updates?  If so, pm or email me and I'll set you up an account.  Very grateful in advance.

I'd love to help, but I think it's going to have to stop at the tutorial vids. My girlfriend is already looking at me "that way" xD

No worries, I quite understand -- and you've already done a ton! :)

I already have one kind soul helping out tonight and tomorrow, but can definitely use more if anyone else is interested.

If you can give me someplace to start, I can spend some time tomorrow after class writing..

itll probably end up with tons of semi-ellipses at the end of sentences, but it cant be that bad... :p

I've added you in there -- now we're up to three volunteers.  Thanks so much!

I don't have any particular goals yet, aside from just correcting things that are inaccurate.  The following pages have been done so far, so anything else is fair game:

http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Getting_More_Knowledge
http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Microing
http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Ships_Slowing_Down
http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Are_Turrets_Useful%3F
http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Reinforcements
http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_More_About

If you can post which pages you've updated here, or email/pm them to me, that would be appreciated.  I'm just checking over everything to make sure that there's not some subtle rule that is misrepresented (happens to the best of us, and sometimes it's to the point where I have to literally check the code myself to be sure), and for purposes of this thread it might be helpful for those doing the updates if they know what has already been taken by someone else. :)

Again, thanks so much!  I'm extremely grateful for anything, but don't feel pressure to do too much.

o.0 that sounds like a much better way then what I was planning..

ill try to work about 5 up on that page (assuming it updates itself automatically when any page is edited) that way, we shouldnt get in each others way

you will have to refresh the list page to see the changes

The recommended WIKI Changes thread in the forum and topics in Mantis would also be a place to work from as reporters were passionate enough to report them.

I made some updates as well, mostly pretty minor.

I feel however, that this page needs to be removed, replaced, or entirely re-written: http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Strong_Vs_Weak

Thanks to everyone who's been making updates!

I removed it, and all the references -- I quite agree.

Very good ideas, for sure.  Feel free to make references to empty topics in the wiki (in normal wiki fashion to indicate TBD content), so that we'll see the link and can fill that in as time permits.

X4000 based on the removal of the strong vrs weak should I be purging pre 4.0 pages completly or editing to indicate it is pre 4.0 with redirects if appropriate? see  http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Command_Posts
as an example were I did not delete an obsolete page.

Let me know if you prefer purge, edit or redirect

TY

Well, I think the answer varies.  In the case of command posts, they haven't really been called that since something like 2.0 or before, I just haven't updated the name.  I'd say that one is still relevant, and just needs to be completely redone with the new expanded info, etc.  Deleting it and just doing a new topic is fine, whichever.  I don't really see any value in keeping around the pre-4.0 answers, as we're not supporting that anymore and having versioned info is just going to make this a nasty mess of outdated info even over time.  In the case of strong vs and weak vs, there is no real counterpart to that page on the new 4.0 versions, so I just deleted it completely and left it at that.

For now I think we'll keep around some of the pre-4.0 info when its a short page.

At least until those of us doing the editing can get a feel for how to replace the page with a more coherent one.  "Do shots miss sometimes?" isn't a great page title for explaining the 4.0 armor mechanic, but it's still a valid question.
