This one is our first update to AI War in three months.  For us, that’s a really, really long time between updates.  There’s a variety of reasons for the lull, but the most significant one was our need to focus on getting A Valley Without Wind 2 done and officially released.  Now that that’s done and we’ve had a few days to catch our breath we’re trying to get things going again on this side of the shop.  We still have other projects underway so it’s not going to be full-steam-ahead or anything like that, but we can keep iterating to make the game better at killing players more fun.

The update itself addresses some of the more pressing issues (according to the last couple of months’ feedback), specifically: making the recently-returned friendly enclaves less lag-prone and less overpowered, toning down the Ancient Shadows “brutal pick” posts, fixing a loophole where special forces were sometimes getting low-cap-ships without really paying for them, and making the AI’s strategic reserves less annoying during assaults on AI homeworlds.

This is a standard update that you can download through the  in-game updater itself, if you already have 4.000 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 4.000 or later, you can download that here.

Welcome back!

Glad to see the drone changes, that was my real problem with those brutal pick guard posts.

Cutting their health in half doesn't hurt either of course.  ;) That might actually make just throwing waves of ships at them a viable tactic if nothing else works.

Also it is a double fact for mass tactics for brutal posts. Being half as much health means their effective health regen is half as well.

Anyone else having trouble getting the update? It's not showing up for me in game. *goes to find the manual update instructions

EDIT: Found manual update instructions, downloaded patch zip, and extracted it myself. Updated fine now, but strange that it didn't seem to work in game like normal.

0010634: Bug under the map button...
"When you press MAP and then choose Galaxy view. It works correctly only first time. Than it works only on upper half of Galaxy view button!:

@Tech: Update worked normally for me so not sure what happened.

@doctorfrog: Home Settlements and Cry Pods scale with difficulty since a while back. I'm not sure all the difficulty levels, my current diff 8 game has 3 home settlements though.

Don't forget the reason this has existed so long is everyone uses Tab to open and close the galaxy map.  So that should help until they get the button fixed.

I dont see a nerf to Dyson Gatlings.
Is there a discussion somewhere around here showing a consensus that the gatlings need a nerf?  And do you mean the gatlings in the AS nebula, the gatlings you get as a reward for winning that nebula, or the gatlings spawned by the TZR (non-AS) dyson sphere?

I am meaning to add an additional offensive counterbalance to human-controlled Champions since that's something a number of players have pointed out the need for, but if you mean something more sweeping, what threads/discussions are you referring to?
