Newbie questions: Warp gate raid and threat
« on: February 16, 2013, 10:48:49 am »
Hi!

I've tried to warp gate raid a planet "Rewreliu" to prevent it from sending raids (prefer to get raids at my chokepoint planet "Dictune", but it didn't work this one time. Have I missed something? See the attached replay where a wave is incomming to planet Apefall.

Another question: Sometimes I feel that threat ships are generated on planets I havn't touched for ages, Is Special Forces guard post involved in this? My goal is basicly to only have to defend chokepoint wormholes  towards systems with warpgates.

I have only won a game with Beginner Game script previously, so this is my first try on the Beginner Game 2 script.

I have to say that there are very few games where I after ~100h playtime still feel like a newbie :)

Regards

Heyy! Always good to see more people finding AI War.

Hi!

I've tried to warp gate raid a planet "Rewreliu" to prevent it from sending raids (prefer to get raids at my chokepoint planet "Dictune", but it didn't work this one time. Have I missed something? See the attached replay where a wave is incomming to planet Apefall.
There's a Warp Gate Guardian in Rewreliu.

Another question: Sometimes I feel that threat ships are generated on planets I havn't touched for ages, Is Special Forces guard post involved in this? My goal is basicly to only have to defend chokepoint wormholes  towards systems with warpgates.

There's 114 threat in Boomasloc and 434 in Yaqre and they both have a Parasite Eye. Ships spawned by Eyes are threat ships. There doesn't seem to be any Zombie ships on those planets (ships spawned by Eyes are Zombie Bots). The threat ships could also be left over ships from CPAs (Cross Planetary Attack(s)). Also if you have transported anything over those planets (with transporters herp a derp) the transports always free at least some of the AI ships (AI ship is freed=becomes threat).

I have only won a game with Beginner Game script previously, so this is my first try on the Beginner Game 2 script.

I have to say that there are very few games where I after ~100h playtime still feel like a newbie :)
I felt like a newb after having played about 100 hours too. This is a complex game with much to learn. I made the mistake of setting the difficulty too high. I was too proud to lower the difficulty.

Here are some guides I've wrote to help other beginners. If you haven't already I recommend you read them. You can also search the AI War Wiki with "Gate Raids" for example. Very useful. Although some parts of it are a bit outdated.

Threat can be produced by planets overflowing, there's a difficulty-based limit for how full a planet can get, after that reinforcements are turned into threat (there's also a limit based on the number of guard posts and I think lowering that can actually prevent a planet from hitting overflow). Having planets on alert without emptying them out regularly can cause them to overflow like this.

Thanks alot for the answers. I read all the posts you linked to Kahuna, and started over using some of the advice. In particular I liked  the advice of unlocking star raiders lvl 2 to take out tachyon posts, data centers and eyes. This allowed me to keep the early game (up until it was time to clear out the 1st home world) below 100 AIP.
Now I'm at the 2nd homeworld with a core eye. I've suicide killed 2 of the core posts using star bombers, and I figure if I continue doing that I'll win eventually.
I also found another unit giving warg gate ability to the AI: alarm posts (both the normal and the special forces version), so if you try to warp gate raid those systems you know what you are up for.

Glad to be of service. Now give double 7,6 a try. Of double 8 if you're feeling lucky.. or.. 7,3 with harder AI types (Extreme Raider, Alarmist for example).
