I have a whine.

It's come up in my AAR game from the adjustment to threat/AI fleet response to turrets and firepower equations.  These cowardly snits are running away as soon as they show up on a planet with anything remotely like decent defense, nevermind one that can actually stop their 1500 ship wave.  I will feel the trader to be a mandatory option for BHGs soon if threat of 1/5th to 1/3 of the wave continues to be a norm.

Apparently the whole /10 on turrets somehow fed into the logic of when a wave would run for the hills.  These are waves that have proven to be able to break said whipping boy with just a little help from some free-float MK IV threat, so it's not like they're really THAT outgunned here.  Heck, smaller groups of actual threat from MK III/IV have invaded and died on the doorstep.

Something... odd... apparently happened with the switch, and it may just be unexpected emergent behavior from the adjustment... but I really don't like it.  I feel more like a janitor having to constantly cleanup leftover threat from a wave then I'm playing a game.
... and then we'll have cake.

Perhaps the modifier can be put back on at a /5 level or something? We can swing back and forth until we find the correct balance point!

Copying my response in the other thread.

1. The minimum time until the AI considers retreat needs to be bumped up some. The 30 seconds of the past may have been too much, but the 3 seconds of now is too little. the firepower ratio where it retreats may need some adjustment as well, as well adjusting as the halfing of the firepower estimate of its own firepower for higher level AIs)
2. I also agree that a /1 adjustment to turret firepower consideration (no adjustment) was a bit much. /3 maybe? /4?

Are the ships retreating immediately, or after 30 seconds?

In the meantime, does forcefielding the "exit" wormhole help at all?

... oh, right, carriers.

If there's a delay, it's 5 seconds at most.  I had originally associated that time with decision time and figured it was near immediate, just not everyone had gotten the memo yet.
... and then we'll have cake.

Ah, something's amiss then.  Do you have a save where a wave's about to come in, but promptly advances in retrograde?

I'll see if I can't add a bit more "deserters will be shot" fear in there.

"Destroy yourself to deal massive aoe damage" is actually a not-uncommon mechanic in tower defense.

Here we just have mines.

I was thinking something other than mines :P

I suppose it'd be a stationary version of the grenade launcher.

Which is sort of the Flak Turret.

That's actually exactly how the Flak Turret was implemented: copy grenade launchers, nail its feet to the floor.

And change the bonuses.

Yeah, which is why I was trying to figure out something different than that, even.

I gave up :P
