The modular forts are cool...

but don't feel 5x as powerful as normal forts. Even with MK III lasers and shields.
Maybe we should be able to build 2 of those? (Mod Forts I mean)
Modular forts can actually do damage to the most dangerous enemy to face on defense - Bombers.

Then there's heavy beams and lasers for that. But seriously, that is incredibly unlikely to happen under the current paradigm. A ship like that would only take bonus damage from sniper and laser turrets, both of which have area countermeasures. And sniper turrets have such terrible dps that they aren't really a factor on ships that are actually in range to attack. Their meant to finish things off, kill ships that have been launched to the ass end of nowhere by military command stations, and help spiders turrets end stuff thats been immobilized. Lasers meanwhile have meh range and the ai counters them more frequently. Hell, having a support corps AI almost guarantees a deflector drone or two in each wave. And yes the flame waves would murder the support ships, but they would make other defense a massive pita.

Having bought the previous Ai War titles from gamers gate I'm wondering if ancient shadows will be up there as well.
Perhaps I've just missed it if it has already been mentioned.
In the past they've been quick to carry our new stuff, but no one ever really carries any of it from day 1, which is just as well really, helps us find any really ripe bugs first, etc :)
Thanks for the quick answer, makes sense and I'll look forward to it for now.

Was that an answer to me or chemical_art? If it was for me it didn't make any sense because it was just question/suggestion to chemical_art before I had tested the fort in action.

Occasionally, if I tell the frigate to attack a single target with none around, it moves to said target, but only fires with main gun. If I manually move the frigate a little closer, then order the attack again the guns and modules then fire.

Could be overkill detection, I'm not sure.

I found a champion exploit: two Human Shadow Destroyer w/three shields can hold off an attack on Home command pretty much indefinitely. I recommend a 2-second delay before modules can be built.
If warheads can't solve it, use more warheads.

It feels really cheap that you immediately get your champion back at no cost when it dies, allows you to pretty much use it as cannon fodder instead of having to hightail it when things go bad. Even Air Mech has a small resource cost and a bit of a respawn delay on the hero unit (and in AM you cannot give orders while your hero is dead!), MOBAs are even more strict about it. Currently it feels a bit like SpellForce in terms of hero balancing.

Currently just rediscovered the galaxy layout controls, and rearranging it is almost more fun than AI war itself ;p

I think one of the main purposes of the Champions is to give you something to do when your economy is floored. I like that they are "free" units. You pay for them in other ways.
If warheads can't solve it, use more warheads.

I started mucking about in a neighboring Mk4 system immediately after starting a game, I could easily wreck all posts except the stealth ones using just the champion because this early in the game the Mk4 planets haven't built up their forces yet.
