AI Reinforcements question
« on: August 12, 2012, 10:20:54 am »
Currently playing a 9/9 turtle/teleporting turtle game.

I'm on about 400aip now and i am starting to notice some things i've not noticed before.

If i destroy the command station but leave an AI barracks and / or guardposts on the planet then the AI continues to reinforce that planet. Is this right?

I'm sure after sniping the command station the Ai continues to build ships at that planet until all the barracks and guardposts are destroyed.

Does the green text in the top left list any Warp Gates left?

Any structure with the Warp Gate ability does allow a system to reinforce, usually the Command Station is the only structure to provide this but there are a few special structures to do also.

What Dazio said.  In this case, I'd bet the special structure is the AI Eye, or "Sentry" or whatever they're now called if you're playing a very recent version.  Turtles and Teleporter Turtles have an Eye/Sentry on just about every planet, and if there are guard posts still alive, it's almost certain the Eye/Sentry is still alive, too.  See also this page on the wiki.

Your right, i think it's the AI eye that allows the system to reinforce until that is destroyed as well. Makes my planning and strategy a bit better now, thanks!

I believe Barracks are reinforce-gates, but not warp-gates.

So the AI needs a Warp gate to receive reinforcements at reinforce-gates, that is my understanding at the moment. Command station or not.

That's true but bear in mind that there are a number of things other than the warp gate structures that can act as warp gates; these allow both reenforcements and waves.  Warp gate guardians can be especially tricky.

when i said warp gate i meant any structure/ship that has the "warp gate - full" ability

There are 3 "gates":
1) Reinforcement
2) Wave
3) Full

The Full counts as both a Wave and Reinforcement.

Sorry; it's just I forget that a lot and wind up on Mantis reporting a bug before I figure out why my back world are getting hit by waves.
