Galaxy Map - Horizontal Line moves down map

Hi, I just bought the game and the two expansions.  It looks good.

One problem I'm having, though, is that there is a horizontal line that moves down the Galaxy Map.  It moves from top to bottom and then repeats again.

It goes away if I check the "disable visual stimulation" checkbox in the graphics settings, but the tooltip for this option says it reduces other graphic quality so I'd prefer not to use that.

I have an Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT.

Yes, that horizontal line is an intentional part of the galaxy map's graphics.  It's sort of like a "scan line" from various sci-fi-ish data readouts, etc.

Reduce Visual Stimulation does indeed disable that.  That whole option is basically for my wife who gets migraines from excessively flashy things, but she loves to play AI War.  Hence the option.  But it does disable almost all the animation in the game.

It would be possible to add a separate toggle that only disables that one horizontal scanline thing, but we normally try to avoid such gratuitous additions of toggles to an already huge set

I might be able to help you, though; what exactly bugs you about the scanline?

I thought it looked like some old movies, with the radar screens on ships

It just makes me a bit queasy.  Funny, because I've never had that feeling before with video graphics.  I find it awkward enough that I'll probably sacrifice the extra graphics if that's the way to turn it off.

Yea, you might want to try it with the reduced-visual-stimulation option then.  It doesn't actually harm the "quality" of the graphics themselves (the same exact pixels are used for the images), it just disables all the color-alternation and almost all the actual animation (explosions will still play through their frames, etc).  So it doesn't have the same visual flair by far.
