Dealing with Golems
« on: July 05, 2010, 10:17:10 pm »
I have never played a Golemite before, and now that I'm up against a Diff 8 I feel very unprepared. Is it recommended I be attacking these with MkIV ships to stand a chance? I sent about 1000 Mk I and II ships (close to my current cap) which got obliterated by a botnet golem (although I kinda expected this, I wanted to see how much damage I could do).

Attached a save for anyone interested. Map is kinda messed up, I had to move the planets around to make sense of it.

I play against the Golemite every once in a while. when I do, I never leave home without Impulse Reaction ships. They are excellent against golems, as well as most starships and forcefields. Only downside is that they're not very good against most other ships. A full cap of them should take down a golem in no time.

I have no such ship (although there are a few Adv. Research Stations to be had yet). To some degree I can use transports to rush past Golem planets, so maybe thats what I will have to do until I can take on the Botnet Golem (with the Z Power Gen on its planet)

a botnet golem does hefy self-damage with every salvo. if you send one ship into range at a time, it does the same amount of self damage, but only aqquires one zombie.

solution: just attack it with one disposable ship at a time, like the mkI fighter, until it selfpwns

Is that intended behaviour? It seems somewhat like an exploit; it should be smart enough not to do that.

Admittedly I haven't seen one in action. There may be good reasons why there are no other options.

I destroyed the warp gate on a planet with an Armored Golem, and am now pumping infiltrators from an adjacent planet. I'll let it just wear itself out.

I'll tackle the Botnet when I have more powerful ships, which can hopefully take it out in one wave.

I'm going to try my luck with starships and see if they pack a bigger punch against the Golems. I have enough K to unlock Zenith, so I'll see how they do.

I must have the experimental engineers the Armored Golem is guarding...

Zenith Starships made a huge difference. It still took some time, but I was able to put them in and pull them out in 30sec rotations or so, with a quick repair, and send them back in.
