(Q) Supplys (Q) Greyouted Ships
« on: June 22, 2013, 04:18:17 pm »
Hi
i m pretty new to this game and realy enjoying it so far. I played the tutorial and now i m in my first  campaign. While playing i kinda read all of the wiki, watch some videos but still i have 2 questions .

Supplys:
While reading and watching i come across the sentences: you dont want to take all planets just becuase you can and i get that, but i m facing now 2 ways (lane) outof my starting cluster of systems to explore the galaxy.  In one there is a dysonsphere golem, i freed the planet and now ITS ship patroling around an helping me, nice . If i get it right, this would end if i take the planet for my self and i had to defend my station against it, so this way(lane) is kinda blocked. Is there a way to hop over one planet with a "supplyship" or a way to boost the adjacent planet so it reach would be 2 hops? without that i must kinda take most of the systems.

Greyoutd ship:
Some of my ship in the fleet are kinda less colour full or greyouted and they dont attackanything. Do they need ammo? are they converted/hacked? i can move them around but if i do an attack move with hotkey X every ship is fighting but they are just move to the point i clicked. whats wrong?

1. Not quite sure what you're trying to do here. Are you trying to set up a chokepoint, but the Dyson Sphere is preventing one from being made?

2. They're powered down. There should be an Unpause button in the bottom left. Click it, and they should be powered up and work normally.

Welcome to the game! :)

Yes, if you take over the Dyson system, it will attack you instead of helping you. While this is something you can deal with, it's much better not to. (If there's something there you really want, you can take the system very briefly by building a command station and then using the delete key to scrap it.)

Supply spreads from the systems you control. The way isn't blocked though. You can just fly through the dyson system (it's friendly now) to the next one past it, and take control of that by using a colony ship to build a command station. That will spread your supply from the new station and let you keep going.

Note that you can do that anywhere. Colony Ships don't need supply to work. It lets you skip systems you don't want or don't need to take control of. :)

No problem. :) It' useful for...I think cloaked ships? If you don't want them to attack something.

And golems. Golems don't attrition while paused.

Supply(s) (-lines): More Questions
i m trying to get my head around this.
What does the Supply-lines realy give me? what good do they do?
i need them for my mobilebuilders, so far.
My real problem now is that i have a big negative ressourceFlow (metal+crystal). I skiped some systems and did take a system with 4 metal and 2 crystal harvester. Do these resources make it to my homeworld where i build my main fleet? are resources Galaxywide(global)? or do i have to have a supplyline to bring them to my building docks and spaceports at my home world?
Is there a hotkey or a Galaxydisplaymode to find and show me where are those resources are used perSecond?
my negative resource-flow is at -7k for both, i m building a superfortress, -2k as shown in the info. but how do i find the thing that cost me the other -5k?

so many question  :)....i hope this still explanis my confusion.

The supply lines just show where you have supply. Supply is needed by certain units to work. Mobile Builders need it, they let you build without a command center. Fortresses and Turrets also need it. (Fun fact: you can use a mobile builder to build turrets in an AI system and kill units there without actually taking the system. This can make some advanced strategies easier.)

Forcefields also require supply, and those protect buildings underneath them from attack (like your command center).

Resources are global, anything you collect anywhere goes into one big pot and can be spent anywhere.

Not off the top of my head, but it's possible there is and I just don't know where. :) If you're building ships, that could do it. A space dock on auto-loop will keep building ships until you have the maximum number of what you told it to build, and that can consume a lot of resources. Mercenary ships (at the Mercenary space dock) are *very* expensive and should only be used if you have nothing else to buy.

One thing you can do is pause the Superfortress (pause button when it's selected) to stop spending resource on it. It'll just stay partially built until you resume it.

If you find you need more resources, you can also unlock better harvesters on the ECON tab of any science lab building. Those cost a lot of research but dramatically boost your resources per metal/crystal harvester.

It's a big game, feel free to keep asking. :)

yes it is....wow...i like it alot

ty  Tridus, everything you told me helped

..and i found out that my engineers were boosting the build of the Superfortress and that did make upto -4k negative resourceflow. i found that in the STATS at the bottom and then in the resource flow. seem the boost to building things is in % of the basecost.

Oh, yeah! The assist thing basically speeds up the construction, and thus speeds up the cost per second appropriately. There's an option in the CTRLS menu where you can tell your engineers not to assist projects over a certain per second cost.

(There's another option in there under "control group specific" where you can tell it to only build if you have over a certain amount of resources available. So if you use group 0 and set it to 1,000,000, if you put the superfortress in that group it will only build while you have that many resources in the bank. You can add things to a group by holding control and pressing a number.)
