Fire Base

I believe this tactic is rather well known (or not), but I find that the best use of those fragile Starships (the initial ones, not the flagship) is to position them in the right place, then surround them with turrets. You should be able to stick 50+ small turrets or 30+ larger turrets at x2 damages coeff around them. This save you money but perhaps more importantly it saves you turrets slots.

Another advantage is that you can defend 3 nearby worlds in time for a raid very efficiently with that. Just have the 1-2 starships move into position to the soon to be attacked planet, and position it at the center of your prepared turret ring. And voila, your 30 turrets are worth 60. So a starship is somehow able to 'move your turrets', as you can double the firepower of them dynamically!

Though if you keep forcefields around this, those forcefields won't last long....

I've done this with Munitions Boosters, but never though doing this with the crappier StarShips. Thx!

the force shield is the cherry on the pie, just to protect some minutes the starship from the initial fire. You should turn it off when around 1.000.000 hits; wait 3 seconds, and then have an engineer repair it. ;)

This is my favorite use for light starships too, although I usually embed them in large sniper emplacements instead of turret groups with more local coverage.  That way they cover the entire system and are out of the way enough to either a) not get smashed up, or b) divert any enemy ships sent to smash them up from the command station/reactors/etc at the other side of the system.

Yeah that sort of works, though it's best use is to take out the stray marauding ship in your area rather than serve as a defense, since they don't handle massed units nor certain other sniper-proof units.
