AI War Hamachi networks
« on: June 14, 2009, 04:25:00 pm »
I set up a public AI War Hamachi network for people looking to meet others and play Co-Op.

The Hamachi channel name is "AI War: Fleet Command", there should be no password.

You can download Hamachi here: https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/list.asp

The program basically sets up a fake LAN network through the Internet. Meaning you can host and connect to others even if you're behind a firewall or router protection. You should theoretically be able to see games others are hosting in your LAN list as well, though I'm not 100% sure about that one. The program also has a chat feature to more easily set up games with other players.

Edit by Fiskbit: Courtesy of Gibon, there's now a second Hamachi network, for those interested: "AI War: Fleet Command 2"

Hey, thanks for setting this up -- Hamachi is great, I've used it plenty of times in the past with AI War and otherwise.  I've stickied this topic. :)

It will also work as a bit of a gathering point as well while we wait and hope for any Xfire of Gamespy support.

Hey All,

I've joined the hamachi group - "sukoto" is my alias there.

I'm still playing through the tutorials and the like - I find these games exciting but very intimidating!

We learn by doing.

Perhaps these forums can do with a "newcomers introduction" thread?

Hi Starmonkey,

The Official AI War: Fleet Command Wiki should hopefully be able to answer some of your questions. It has certainly been useful for me.

If the wiki does leave any of your questions unaddressed please post them on the forum - everyone here is very amenable to helping, particularly the developer, x4000, who maintains the wiki.

Good luck in your campaigns against the AI!

I tried to join this evening but apparently the network is full.

For a public (free) network it is limited to 16 users.

Hello!

Same here. When I tried to join the "AI War: Fleet Command" hamachi returned the message that network is full. I am setting another network - "AI War: Fleet Command 2" pass: "net2" ( NO "" ), for those who can't join the first one.

No password required.

Hi, just got the game and registered here. Just finished the tutorials and want to play online via hamachi.

But both networks are FULL:
AI War: Fleet Command
AI War: Fleet Command 2

I also tried
AI War: Fleet Command 3

but it doesnt exist^^

it seems like this game only works via LAN or things like hamachi, or did I miss something and there are other means?

Thank you for chosing Value-Rep!

It works via direct connect, as well, like with most other online games.  The only thing that is missing here that is in a number of other games is a matchmaking server; we never had the capacity for that in the past, and given the extended nature of games it was less of a priority than the other features, etc.  The best suggestion is to post your availability in this forum, or look on the IRC channel to see if anyone is up for a game right now, and then go from there.  Hope that helps!

Hey. Just got the game. Its very hard to learn. But that what makes it fun. I got Hamachi. Does anyone have any other rooms up that we can join to play on it? I'm only available on the weekends and fridays to play it. Thanks.

I've started up AI War: Fleet Command 3.  I was tired of never being able to join the first two.

No password yet again, so come on in.  I'd also like to play a game sometime between now and noon tomorrow. :D

Ha, that one is full now too. Are people just camping in all three at once?

With Hamachi, when you join a network it leaves you in there permanently, and each one only has 16 slots.  So I think this is a pretty nonworkable way to organize lots of people, as it turns out -- my suggestion of Hamachi was originally for small groups of regulars to join together.  I think that the Steam Communities, or the IRC channels (or posting on this forum) are generally going to be the better way to meet and coordinate schedules with people who want to play at similar times together...

Ah, so it doesn't matter if they're online or off, it's going to get full quick.

Not the best way to 'matchmake' then.

No, absolutely -- I had never intended for Hamachi to be used for matchmaking per se.  You're absolutely right.
