Biggest attack ever
« on: February 09, 2011, 12:16:20 pm »
Just wondering what sizes attacks you may have had.
Yesterday I found the AI was under the impression that their 7+k ships, of which 6k divided over 12 carriers, would be able to dent my defences.

They where correct ...  ::)
However my CC survived and no AI ships made it of the planet :)

I found it rather insane and only cause I had this planet built as a 'last line of defence' that it actually managed to hold of the wave.
And only cause I made my spider/sniper turrets take down the carriers, after which I rushed in Martyr's to mop up the fleetships.

It does make me wonder, what is the biggest size attack you have ever experianced. I pretty much hope this was somewhat the upper limit of what I can expect ... it where some tense moments  8)

I recall someone who recently saw a seven digit AI attack incoming.  I forget if it was due to a mkIII nuke or if they had done the alternate victory in an FS campaign.

This was buildup from a neutered planet. I have a neutered planet, and a cleaned(gate taken out and all posts) planet in between the rest of the AI and the attacked planet. Not long before I cleaned out the planet of any buildup, after which the AI sort of stopped reinforcing the other 2 fronts and send every ship to that planet. Once they hit roughly 8k in numbers I all of sudden found the text "7xxx enemies on planet Log I-I" in the upper right corner of my screen  :o

Dont know if its random or in some way you have learned the AI to do this, but it really seemed like the AI was aware of its own doom and started concentrating all their firepower in 1 big attack .... I wont let it happen again  8)

I was actually thinking of a more recent case.  So there are multiple such cases ;)  Yours was actually 8 digits, though, summing them up.

Possibly a Metagamer AI Type ;)

"Bah, as if a mere 32-bit address space could oppose me."

aside from those insane stacked things, in my current game the AI sent 15k units to my planet at once (1k normal rest in carriers)

when I popped every carrier with one of my Spire Penetrators..... lets say slight lag on my machine, fortunately they were all at the same wormhole so really close together, which made it easy to detonate a couple MK IV Martyrs.... MMMMMMmultikill.

Related yet unrelated: Oh no, a CPA, what ever shall I do! I don't know if it was intentional to get ridiculously low numbers of ships for CPAs, but it was still a good chuckle when I first saw it and was afraid, only to feel stupid once I looked at the ship count.

That's hilarious. I have no idea what bugged out there. I'm imagining two AI bombers sitting next to a wormhole, chatting about how they're going to single-handedly wipe out the human menace. Perhaps sharing the AI equivalent of a bottle of whiskey. Then charging through to see 500 ships looking awkwardly at them.

Currently I am playing on a 100 planet map, have just taken planet no.87. The CPA that was called soon after would hold ~12k units, it came with ~600.
At that point the AI was out of ship ...  ::)
I thought the AI would get meaner as AIP goes up  8)
